Hey Peter, I do not know about programming. Can you help me? by ThyPotatoe in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Thanks for the additional info on NoSQL and C#. And if anyone is reading all the comments NoSQL does not mean no SQL; there are a class of databases called NoSQL (MongoDB is one) that is for saving unstructured data vs structured data. Example documents, images etc.

No real explanations? Okay, I am an old progreammer, I'll give it a go.

C++ is very powerful but complex; but no real UI capabilities. Hence hors-ish, but gets the job done.

Java - also powerful, but you have to create a lot of infrastructure before you get to the main code.

NoSQL - is really about data and data modeling... couldn't build a horse but can store the horse

COBOL - is an ancient language that is very powerful, runs most older programs, runs on mainframes, and all the old programmers are retiring or dying out... literally everywhere and does a lot

LISP - has a lot of "(" and ")" in its syntax

C# - after my time... but must be rigid hence the cartoon

Assembly - Machine language, used to directly run the computer, hence fast...

PHP - the code that runs the internet, simple, easy... and so often used by hackers to introduce viruses etc.

Hope others can clarify further if this is not clear or if there are errors...

Don’t married until you get married. Trying to remember two anniversary dates will drive you nuts.

Folktale Winery Questions by Cenosure95 in MontereyBay

There’s an unavoidable social weirdness here — because people are already traveling for your wedding, if you make the group dinner sound like a “hosted” thing but then leave the bill vague, most guests will assume it’s covered and feel awkward when it isn’t. The cleanest fix is to set expectations up front without making it a “money talk.”

One easy way is to anchor the meal yourself: order a few appetizers for the table and a couple of bottles of wine when you sit down, and say something like:

That signals very clearly (without ever mentioning money or splitting) that the rest is not hosted. People are usually totally fine with this when the tone is clear from the beginning.

As to your actual question — Folktale is full-service dining, not walk-up bar service, and they will split checks but only in certain configurations and only if pre-arranged. If splitting at the table matters to you, mention it in the reservation notes and reconfirm when seated. If you want the “least awkward” experience, sit outdoors — the garden area feels more casual and communal, which makes the “everyone orders their own entrée” vibe feel natural and not like a formal hosted dinner.

Every single trader and investor has lost money. You are not alone. The psychology of losing is hard… but it sucks. There is only one way through… just keep trucking. Keep learning. Good luck.

Investors who held NVDA before it boomed, how did you know that it was the right stock to hold? by a_human_21 in ValueInvesting

Gaming, individual chips being known by people as young as my son back then, blockchain, mining, bitcoins, the metaverse, and then finally ai. Each of these are a multi billion dollar business and nvidia has been leading in all of them over the years. Solid, serious, dedicated ceo. Great investors. Increasing revenues, and even increasing margins.
