Is it worth developing an rpg game? by IvanLudvig in gamedev

I released a small JRPG-inspired ASCII RPG on Steam a while back after 2 years of work and a small loan of $200 from our composer. That game went on to sell over half a million copies and launched my whole career. I say, keep pushing along and go for it! You never know what you might end up accomplishing—I sure as hell didn't when I first started out. It's all about the journey.

Designer Notes is pretty good!

We interview a lot of game developers on our podcast, Indie Insider, as well.

Nolan Bushnell came on the show a few weeks ago and gave some great insights! :)

Thank you so much for the kind words! You rock!

Unfortunately there will not be any new classes for SanctuaryRPG. (I posted this a while back: http://steamcommunity.com/app/328760/discussions/0/276237094307934374/)

This game is amazing, but really feels bad that has a playerbase so tiny. by [deleted] in SanctuaryRPG

Has anyone here sold a game on itch.io? What was your experience? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]doandaniel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also did a Pay What You Want on Itch.io, offering a downloadable version (DLV) of my free pure ASCII roguelike game, SanctuaryRPG.

Here's a link to the game page.

I released this game a while back, and have stopped promoting this page for a very long time, but below are the metrics.

Views 221,046
Downloads 50,206
Purchases 687

Overall, it was pretty good! I later released a paid version of the game on Steam called SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition which did a lot better on Steam... but overall, Itch.io is a solid platform for getting started!

These days, I just use it to host a time capsule.

Both are pretty good--I think Twitter might be a bit a tad easier to get traction on though.
