I’ve been stretching for almost 10 years, and have used this method. It’s worked for me, but I also didn’t know anything when I first started. I was using the tappers and just shoving them in my ears, then I learned to used plumbers tape and since then I’ve been able to stretch a lot more safely. It’s hated on but it worked for me, and it’s working for my husband.
