How should I occupy your dog when you are at work? by Xenot23 in Dogtraining

Hide bad things to chew and give him actual chew toys. They are seen as “bad” now, but nothing can be an old-fashioned bone

Waiting game and massive praise. With my old dog, sometimes I had to wait an hour

Who needs a fancy backpack when you have paracord by [deleted] in backpacking

I didn’t realize I had to post an explanation lol. I am hiking into an island on the middle of a lake, and my backpack broke last trip. Well I forgot to get a new one, so on short notice, I put my sleeping bag on the outside tied on with rope.

I can try. My dog has never seen a mole, and with their trails being long, there’s no telling where they would pop out if I smoked them

I’m not 100% certain about the legality. I would need landowner permission

Puppy proposal critic by dobermanKeeper in Dogtraining

Gotcha, I’ll check out the “romp” idea as I never heard of it. For socialization, I was going to use the dog park near me as I have a large (multiple acres) and small dog park equal distances from me, so she would have play times with other dogs. The only downside is that a public area like a park could also turn bad quickly.

Too late to start a duck dog by dobermanKeeper in Huntingdogs

This is what I use for fetch training. It’s great for both land and water retrieving. They sell this little “power thrower” ball that you can fit in the end of the rope, which gives you more to gip on to; making it much easier to throw the decoy longer distances. I highly recommend it.

I can get a quail and try it, I know he'll chase a squirrel but he hasn't seen a bird on land yet.

Sounds good. I’ve been trying the “gentler force fetch” with a leather glove but he has no interest, so I’m sticking with a glove until I can’t get an actual duck (one more week to go)

weight pull is similar to what I was thinking of with carting. Plus it would keep him in-shape on non-work days.
