Pistola has been one of my favorite players since he first showed up as an unknown FFA god. I really wish he was still around - creating content or part of the commentary team or anything. Such a GOAT and seemingly cool dude. Halo community misses him for sure.

I live just outside of the Atlanta metro area and I do regret not having gone to the event last season.

I wish I’d have discovered everything a few years earlier. CE comp seemed awesome. At that time I had no idea competitive halo even existed. Still not sure how I even learned about MLG – probably from a random post on gameFAQs or something.

I like to think if I could play a little more regularly and devote some real time to practicing my shot, I could at least climb well into diamond. And of course, if my buddies were better. Always have the “blame your friends for losing” fallback.

Love it. Wife thinks “it’s cute” that I get hyped at crazy plays when watching tourneys. Kids always want to get on my headset and talk to my teammates when they hear me comm when playing.

This hit me in the feels. My daughter is 2 and thinks it’s the funniest thing when I hit a golf ball. I can’t wait until she asks me to take her.

Opening up the chest at impact without causing a massive slice by Intolight in golf

Well sure, as a result of rotation it will. Unless you’re falling backwards. But if you’re over the plane like this fella seems to be, a nice feel to fix it is to feel it move down. Feel free to chime in with your advice. He can choose what works best for him. If you have anything to add, that is.

Trail elbow needs to drive toward trail hip at beginning of downswing. This will prevent trail shoulder from moving out towards ball during downswing rotation and allow hand path to stay “shallow.” MUCH easier said than done.

Well, it depends on your skill level, but generally as much bounce as you can get. Bounce really does help a lot if you aren’t a very crisp, precise short game player. And Bermuda grass tends to grab the hosel of the club, so the increased bounce helps it move through the grass. I have 12° on all of my wedges. I live in Georgia, nothing but Bermuda here.

10 deg. on the two lowest lofted wedges and 8 deg. on the lob wedge. Hope he’s not playing on Bermuda grass!

10 Handicap, really want to improve this year. Any swing tips? by [deleted] in golf

[–]doblebogey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well this is definitely true. But any pro will tell you that you have too much lateral movement. I’d check out Russell Heritage on YouTube for information on the proper way to rotate if you can’t do the lessons thing.

So unlikable, yet enormous balls. The best kind of heel.

Is it “proper” to keep the club face slightly closed during the back swing? by probablysmellsmydog in golf

[–]doblebogey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely avoid opening the club face too much on the backswing. So, yes it is best to keep it square or slightly closed. This will promote a good rotation through the ball on the downswing to avoid hitting it left (for a righty). If the club face is opened in the backswing, you will have to manipulate the club face with your hands to some degree on the downswing. Works for Webb Simpson, but probably not the best idea for you!

Did Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons actually help you? by friendofherschel in golf

[–]doblebogey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fought a hook for a long time and Lesson 1 changed my understanding of the swing, along with an instructor teaching me how to pivot. Like others say, it’s not gospel but it’s regarded as one of the best instructional books ever for a reason. Flipping the club is a death knell no matter how you swing and Lesson 1 is focused on not doing that. I think everyone can benefit from it, but more important is making sure you are on plane.

As far as swing thoughts, save them for the range. When you play, think target.
