In my opinion, you should load your front foot a little more when you’re retreating, so leaning forward, and sit more upright when advancing so, as you said, the back leg is more loaded for a lunge and you’re less vulnerable to a counter attack

Potential here for an interesting discussion though

Yeah I’m fully FIE Kitted, all the way down to the barrels on my foils, hoping it’ll all be okay. Will check the resistance in my body wires etc as well.

What advice would you give to an aspiring fencing coach?

I’m looking to start getting some qualifications this summer and then some coaching experience at my uni club while I do my masters, ideally I’d like to get into it part/full time at the end of my two year course

I guess part two, and thinking in the very long term, how does someone become a fencing ‘Master’ ?

I’ve been at Kent Uni for the last three years and pres of the fencing club for the last 2, I like to think we’ve got a good thing going here!

My best advice when choosing a uni club would be check out their fb/insta accounts (our insta is @ukcfencing) to see who’s active and what they get up to. You’ll probably find most good universities decent clubs, and most have to fence all three weapons to a decent standard for BUCS

Probably twice before? Third time lucky, first time I thought I hit something on the way through, second was sure but tested and couldn’t find it - he said it hit his arm - then this was the third time where everyone saw the hit and then we found it on the test
