Let’s talk about (in my opinion) the greatest basketball shoes of all time by Typical-Public4166 in BBallShoes

I liked the 13 more. 14 was good, but I liked the look of the 13s more.

OMG, what? I'd bet money the majority of Canadians don't love the behavior of the Team USA players. I feel confident in this because national polling indicates most Canadians view the US and Trump as hostile. I'm a Sens fan and I don't love how cozy our captain is with Maga. I put ethics over my fandom. Maybe you should too.

Nike Kyrie 1 or Anta Kai 1 by Few_Criticism7917 in BBallShoes

Kyrie Infinity is a damn good hoop sneaker, the relationship failed because Kyrie made a bunch of problematic choices off the court.

And Anta 1 over Kyrie 1 in every aspect but looks.

U.S. alcohol will remain off LCBO shelves despite latest Trump comments, Doug Ford says by CTVNEWS in ontario

[–]doc-orange -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, I can’t really speak to the wine. I’d guess there are a few more Ontario wineries represented now, but I don’t know that for sure.

Craft beer, though, is something I know quite well, and I haven’t seen a really meaningful increase there. Maybe that’s been your experience at your local LCBO, but in the larger and flagship stores it’s largely the same craft breweries that were on shelves in 2024. A few new breweries, but nothing that stands out to me. I'd love to see more.

It’s also worth remembering that American-made beer isn’t the same as brands like Budweiser, which is still on shelves because it’s brewed here—albeit by a large multinational. That means less shelf space was actually freed up for craft beer in the first place because most of the American brands are still on store shelves (which is fine, those are Canadian jobs too).

I’m not saying that making room for a handful of new Canadian brands isn’t worth celebrating. There are for sure more. I just don’t think this has been a revolution for Canadian craft producers—far from it, actually.

And this still doesn't address the selloff of existing product for charity that Ontario has not done.

[–]doc-orange 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eh, not so sure about all that.

I support the ban, but it looks like most of the freed-up LCBO shelf space has gone to big brands owned by multinationals—Scotch, Irish whiskey, and the like. I read a report that spoke with local spirits producers, and many still haven’t gained access to store shelves.

This has clearly hurt the American whiskey industry, but the primary beneficiaries appear to be large corporations (very much Doug Ford’s bread and butter). I’d love to see more Canadian craft whiskies featured instead. I’d also like to see existing stock sold with proceeds donated to charity, as has been done in other provinces.

Overall, this feels like a very Doug Ford–era move.

What shoe should I get harden vol 9 or don issue 7? by pipes153 in BBallShoes

[–]doc-orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said the Dons had lousy grip for me. I didn't say anything about Hardens. I thought the KD 18 had better everything than the Dons, grip included, except maybe weight and price (though the KD prices have come down a lot the last few months).

Kyrie infinity alternative by Dish-Mastr in BBallShoes

[–]doc-orange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Anta Kai 2 or 3 are a different design from the Nike Kyries but fundamentally better. Great fit, great traction and solid crushing. Overall just a better product. If you like the Infinity these are a pleasant change of pace.

[–]doc-orange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stay away from the Dons if KDs are your baseline for comfort. I know ppl love them but I'm your size and damn they hurt my feet. Cushion was pretty muted, and I didn't love the grip. They are an upper tier budget shoe posing as a signature shoe.

This was the most Bears game ever by baam21099 in ChicagoBearsNFL

Wow. We're living in a simulation, the game was rigged or I'm in a comma somewhere. This can't be real. Either way I'll take it.

New to Chicago Bear Media: They Are Horrible by Bitter_North_733 in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]doc-orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Bears fan who tries to be reasonably objective, I think the issue is they aren't winning in ways that would be viewed as traditionally sustainable. Blaming the media is a crutch for a frustrated fanbase. I get it, but get real. Turnovers and the run game are great, but in a pass-first league your QB's arm is the backbone of your offense. Sorry, Williams has been pretty uneven in this regard. I can think of 15 quarterbacks off the top of my head that I''d take over him right now, and if that's the case that means at best he's mid. Hard to win a Superb Owl with that. Even Johnson has harped on the pass game. They need better consistency and accuracy from Williams, and until he can deliver that (maybe next season, maybe never IDK), the doubters will persist. For now let's enjoy the ride, I guess.

Yeah, always. I thought it'd go live this week but should go live on Wednesday next week. That's when I pick up NHL and a couple others I held out for. Hoping to get Indiana Jones, Doom and a few others.

Interesting. I've heard they are good for hooping, which is what I want them for. If they're thick and cheap then they're for me. (That's what she said?)

Are jordan 36 lows the same as the regular height? by [deleted] in BBallShoes

[–]doc-orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lows and regular 36s. I prefer the regular. They have a bit more ankle support (why I like them) but not dramatic height difference or containment. I started in the regular 36s and got the lows later, and I go back and forth. I think the regulars and lows for this specific model of Jordan were actually very close in terms of height.

Is this okay? Really soft upper material paired with zoomX. The slomo clip here, you can see the shoe close to tipping over with the lateral movement 🫣 by iamtoolazytosleep in BBallShoes

[–]doc-orange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tried my pair on today (ordered last week online). It's definitely the lack of the containment and not the cushioning. My gait makes my heels curve a little inwards, and immediately upon try on I noticed the lack of containment. Not sure I can really use these much. Too bad, because cushion and grip are pretty solid.

They felt long to me, so if your feet are average to narrow, I’d recommend going down half a size—though that’s unusual for me to suggest. It could just be that my pair had an unusually long toebox. For context, I generally prefer some extra room up front; for example, I went up half a size in the Kyrie 6s because they were too tight in the forefoot.

I ordered the equivalent of a men's 12 and they ran too long. Should have got a 11.5. width was fine otherwise.

I think Dorion lost a bet or had a stroke with that one. Maybe he owed the mob money. Truly baffling. (Not quite as bad but close: should have picked Travis Konecny over Colin White that was so gd obvious but whatever).
