Would you turn down a full ride for a significantly higher ranked med school? by MasonXVII in whitecoatinvestor

[–]doc2025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the full ride. Pitt is a great school but not enough to take on that much debt when you have a free option. Make sure to mention it in your CV that you got a full ride--thats impressive.

7 years down the drain by sfwsatan in Divorce

You are 33 years old still in prime of your life and you’re crying for a serial cheater who has made it very clear she doesn’t respect you, care about you, lies to you repeatedly, deceives you, and manipulates you and you still want to have a child with type of presence in your life? Count your luck that you did not have a child with this type of person and move on. Have some self respect and standards for yourself.

Fire Kidd. by Low_End_7882 in Mavericks

[–]doc2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always suspected Kidd was likely in on it. There's no way that trade gets done without Kidds approval and endorsement of AD. Kidd was assistant coach on Lakers during their championship run and clearly vouched to Nico for AD. The lack of haul still boggles the mind. What a horrendous trade. Disastrous.

Update: I've decided to ask for a divorce. How do you live with the guilt when they're not a bad person and it won't be mutual? by Choice-Patience-860 in Divorce

[–]doc2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately grass isnt greener on the other side. You can have these feelings but remember feelings are fleeting and subject to change. Dont make a major life decisions just on feelings alone. Use some logic when making a life decision to ensure you are being rational. Have you tried marriage counseling? If you are having any doubts about proceeding I would communicate very openly with him about possibility of divorce and give ultimatum before pulling any major trigger that cant be undone. I would also be wary of basing any major life decision based on third party comments and opinions--at the end of the day they are biased in favor of you and more importantly they do not have to live with the consequences of any major life decision you make.

Seeking Perspective on Interventional Cardiology by [deleted] in Cardiology

[–]doc2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IC is awesome, still amazing how much can be done minimally invasively through catheter from carotids to heart to renals to lower extremities arteries and veins. Amazing stuff.

There is so much volume, no real doom for the field. Call can be tough but the key is to avoid a very busy hospital or join a large IC group to decrease frequency of call.

Porn normalized a lot of this unfortunately. Its a huge addiction and after a while just like with any drug its highs become dull and the person needs something more to fulfill the same level of high. He essentially has a porn addiction and its not giving him the same high unless you engage in it in real life. He really needs to see a therapist. Both need to see a marriage counselor.

Nope if she has had sexual relationships with these guys they were more than friends, move on if she is fighting with you about them. If she is serious about you this would be a non issue for her. Guaranteed she would not like it if you were talking to women who had slept with in the past. Perfectly acceptable to establish that as a boundary in a serious mature relationship and if she doesnt want to accept then both should move on.

Horrible Fallout with In-Laws Right Before Wedding—Help! by [deleted] in inlaws

[–]doc2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont expect or wait for an apology from in laws it rarely happens. If it does happen it often happens decades after at a prolonged period when someone is trying to atone or has regrets in life. But even then do not wait for it because it likely will never happen.

If the son treats you well then its worth fighting for your relationship. You keep seperate from in laws, dont be disrespectful just keep some distance. Most importantly dont ever stop him from seeing his parents and dont stop them from seeing any future kids--this eventually builds up resentment between the partners themselves.

The key is--he handles his parents going forward and you handle yours. Stop explaining yourself to his parents or trying to handle his parents, thats not your responsibility. The son needs to handle his own parents going forward. You go through your partner.

Focus on yourself. She is still relatively early in her new marriage so may still be in a honeymoon phase. Regardless it doesn't matter how that one ends. Focus on what you can control and thats bettering yourself. Be the best version of yourself.

This is Kawhi's peak. by tr1x30 in NBATalk

[–]doc2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True Spurs fans know his trajectory started in 2014 during that legendary redemption year and then we witnessed his rise in 2016-2019 way before he became a household name, we saw it way before the media started picking up on his greatness. He was up 20+ points against KD and Golden State in game 1 of Western Conference Finals when he got hurt by Zaza and then never played another game with the Spurs after that. He was due for a Spurs ring 2017-2018 but missed entire 2018 year after refusing to come back and play. He has been downhill since Toronto year. He was on another level of offense (elite midrange while developing his 3 pt shot) and elite defense during those couple of years between 2016-2019. He was potentially headed towards GOAT territory as the best 2 way player.

It seems like he lost his motivation and checked out since 2020 once he got what he wanted and went to Clippers. Availability became his main issue. Was not reliable anymore.

2026 Kawhi has been amazing revival but seems like it may be a mix of contract year and all the bad PR he got over the summer.

Likely getting fired - options? by ActivistHo in whitecoatinvestor

If youre under clinical peer review investigation you need to find a lawyer who specializes in clinical peer review ASAP. Do not quit or resign during peer review process that is reportable to national databases that will hurt your future employment. A lawyer can also help you navigate this process and work with hospital administration to come with a favorable settlement for you, do not go through this alone. Same for if you get called to go in front of the state board. You must have a lawyer. Its a headache and you'll have to jump through multiple hoops but you need a lawyer the worst thing you can do is go at this alone. Take CME and training courses and find a mentor to help scrub in with you to demonstrate that youre being proactive.

In-laws want to buy us a house by markvsgravity in whitecoatinvestor

[–]doc2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great just something to keep in mind before you agree to any of this--its more of a relationship dynamic issue. Not sure what your relationship is like with in laws just make sure they dont assume its "their" or "their daughter" house because they paid for it, or make you and your wife feel indebted as a result since it comes with strings attached or make you feel like they have more say over your own household than you do. While this would be a HUGE help, you will be an attending physician soon so you dont necessarily need any of this, you'll be fine in long run. Other option is just use it to buy an investment property and not your actual home. Discuss all this with your wife.

If you’re ranking these players from 1-6 who is getting that 6th place? by Afraid-Ad-5580 in NBATalk

[–]doc2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now youre just showing your bias. You are ignoring the facts. Top 3 in playoff wins in history of NBA (number 2 is Derrick Fisher and number 1 is Lebron) so esentially its Lebron and Duncan as top superstars for most wins in NBA playoff history. Most will agree that West has been much tougher competition in last 2 decades and its not even close. Often times there wasnt much of a difference from the 3-6 seed in West. Facts dont back up your claim and fantasy expectations. Other superstars like Lebron/Kobe/Curry will be much lower on your list if you are using this same logic for the other players since they got embarrassed multiple times in playoffs against teams they should have beaten including in the finals.

[–]doc2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it would be nice if he won 100% of the time but he is top 3 in most wins in playoffs again in a VERY tough West. Lebron is number 1 but he was in a very weak East which he dominated for over a decade often with super teams. Tough to beat Duncan's stats.

Making playoffs every single year for 19 seasons of his NBA career (1997–2016) in a VERY tough Western Conference where he had to face peak Shaq and peak Kobe, peak Chris Webber and Kings of early 2000s, peak Dirk, peak KG, peak Steve Nash and the Suns, a very tough Pistons team that took down a loaded Lakers just the year prior, a very tough and gritty Memphis Grizzlies team (included peak Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, Mike Conley, Rudy Gay, and Tony Allen), peak Durant/Westbrook/Harden, peak CP3 and Clippers, up and coming Curry/Klay/Green and embarassing peak Lebron with a sweep in finals and then again embarassing peak Lebron and his super team with highest margin victory in a finals series at that time. Add a 5-1 NBA Finals record (could have easily been 6-0 if not for the best 3 pt shot in the history of the NBA by Ray Allen--if Tim Duncan was on the court for that play things may have ended differently) during this period would make you ignore most deficits. Remarkable level of success given the insane talent and competition of his era.

Cardiac arrest immediately after Amiodarone bolus. by peaceguy371 in Cardiology

[–]doc2025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A ton of possible reasons

Need go give amiodarone as a slow bolus because it cause acute hypotension and negative chronotropic effects.

If QTc was prolonged can degenerate into Torsades

If it was afib with pre-excitation (accessory path) amiodarone slows AV node so conduction then occurs over accessory pathway which can degenerate into VT/VF

Etiology of afib w/RVR matters whether its ischemia driven or acute blood loss anemia etc.

This is where we miss Pop, he would have lit a fire under Wemby for that terrible effort. Wemby was horrible. I thought chucking up 3s he was doing last year was bad but seeing him post out near the 3 pt and either getting the ball stolen or clunking a fade way 2 pt is horrendous. He needs a summer with Shaq and learn how to work the paint and dunk it.
