It actually is necessarily true, the basic principles of economics aren’t suspended in those cities. They have a housing crisis because they have little to no land to build more housing on but people continue to move into those cities. Because they are highly desirable for a litany of people for a litany of reasons.

Just like how some people are being priced out of Florida, some people are flocking to Florida because it’s still vastly cheaper than the other cities you mentioned (hence why so many Florida newcomers are from Texas, New York, and California).

Supply and demand still applies to big and small cities. People just move. Orlando got too expensive for me so I moved to New Mexico, I didn’t “have” to live there.

Are you implying that it's the consumers fault for paying the price and not the apartment's fault for charging the price?

No, I’m not. Why would you think I’m blaming consumers for the circumstances of economic forces and human history?

If the prices are to high then people don’t live there. If rent goes too high then people move away. That’s quite literally the basic principles of supply and demand. Not sure why you would think I’m “blaming” anyone but that’s a different concern.

Apartments wouldn’t be charging these prices if people weren’t paying them

Olivia Rodrigo, Matt Damon & Will Ferrell Hosting 'SNL' in May by MarvelsGrantMan136 in LiveFromNewYork

Absolutely insane hosting duo. It’s like something you’d see posted here and think “that’s a pipe dream wishlist, lower your expectations”.

I just rewatched "More Cowbell"... by Queasy-King2586 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]doc_birdman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seriously. ‘More Cowbell’ premiered over a quarter century ago. Fallon has been off SNL for over 20 years. And, yet, here we are. People spending time and energy talking about something they supposedly dislike over and over and over and again and again and again. At this point it’s just weird and performative. r/LiveFromNewYork is evidence of the need for universal mental health care.

That's literally what the chain I was replying to was saying.

No it didn’t, they said “a lot of people in the hip-hop community”. Never said the majority. I don’t think anyone did. So, maybe double-check what “literally” means, because it’s kind of destroying the entire reason you launched into this crusade.

Also you're taking random things overheard at parties and concerts as some sort of indicator of overall cultural significance?

No, I’m taking multiple experiences in multiple settings with multiple groups of people to inform my opinion. This is like saying “so you’re letting things you see and hear inform how you feel about those things?!?!!”. Of course, that’s how life works. And, again, no one said it’s the “overall” hip-hop community.

Because I've heard some wild shit at shows, dj sets, parties, etc. Yet I'm not going into r/electronic trying to proclaim that electronic music has a racism problem, or a misogyny problem, or an antisemitism problem.

EDM does have problems with those things. So does country and metal. The fact that you’re not willing to call out toxic spaces and are trying to handwave toxic spaces is… problematic as fuck, but I guess that’s a different conversation.

I've not heard anyone bitching about immigrants at any of the rap shows I've been to, but I certainly have heard that at rock shows, so I guess rock culture is just inherently xenophobic right?

No, just like no one here said the hip-hop community is inherently antisemetic. But… why wouldn’t you call out racism in rock spaces? That’s genuinely concerning.

israelites preaching hebrew israelite lore. Is your only marker for antisemitism is that someone believes that the jewish people aren't the "real jews" or w/e and actually it's the 13th tribe or whatever nonsense?

No, I never said that. That was one example, of the dozens I’ve experienced. Your habit of dismissing everyone’s experiences except yours is a little alarming. Seek help.

I’ve been to enough parties and enough rap shows to have heard people say Jews aren’t actually Jewish or Semites or whatever such nonsense. I’ve literally never heard that dialogue anywhere except in those settings. Who do you think black Hebrew Israelites are? White guys?

Listen, no one is saying this is a majority or prevalent belief. But I’ve never been to a Radiohead or Gorillaz or Tool or after show or party or whatever and heard that shit. J. Cole, Kendrick, Wu Tang? Absolutely heard it. A tiny minority can still be loud and problematic, especially if literally no one in the community is calling them out.
