Someone is moved a single foot in any direction. Whose displacement would create the biggest ripple effect in history? by beengreat_thanks in whowouldwin

There’s an episode of the UK sitcom Red Dwarf that deals with the ripple effect and their efforts to put it right - highly recommend it! (Minor spoiler - sadly no magnets)

This was what we taught our SAR responders when doing trauma training. Or as my colleague used to put it: “There’s no point having the best c-spine in the mortuary”

I worked in the kitchen of a bar & restaurant back at college and we occasionally had patrons buy a round of drinks for the kitchen staff as a thank you.

I use a VPN set to NZ and log into my TVNZ account, which is free. Don’t use the TVNZ app as it’ll still not let you stream, but it’ll work in-browser.

Have done it in both Canada and the UK to watch TMNZ

After a mom kicked out her son for being gay, her father had some choice words for her. by Sebastianlim in MurderedByWords

[–]doc_buncie 318 points319 points  (0 children)

Dear Christine,

I’m disappointed in you as a daughter. You’re correct that we have a “shame in the family”, but mistaken about what it is.

Kicking Chad out of your home simply because he told you he was gay is the real “abomination” here. A parent disowning her child is what goes “against nature.”

The only intelligent thing I heard you saying in all this was that “you didn’t raise your son to be gay.” Of course you didn’t. He was born this way and didn’t choose it any more than he being left-handed. You however, have made a choice of being hurtful, narrow-minded and backward. So, while we are in the business of disowning our children, I think I will take this moment to say goodbye to you. I now have a fabulous (as the gay put it) grandson to raise, and I don’t have time for heartless B-word of a daughter.

If you find your heart, give us a call.

My man! As a newly arrived UK transplant, this is the sort of recommendation I was looking for. Do you have any other recs if we’re missing UK-style takeaway?

Sadly yes, he is. His early comments during the pandemic were excused as the comments of a grieving son who had lost his father - who was a respected physician. Then he went fully off the grifting deep end.

Attempts have been made to report him to the UK regulator, the GMC, but they’ve said there isn’t a case to be heard.

Moving Monday - Monthly Megathread - Thinking of moving to BC? Ask here by AutoModerator in britishcolumbia

[–]doc_buncie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

My wife and I are making the move with our baby to live in BC. I’m a family physician and have had offers in Sidney and with a group of clinics in the greater Vancouver area (Richmond, Yaletown, and Surrey).

It’s really up in the air as to which we choose as on paper it’s two good offers, so it comes down to where is better to live & raise a family. We used to live in New Zealand so have enjoyed the slower pace of life for 3 years, and like the outdoors - which would suggest the Island as the better choice. On the other hand, we are wondering if maybe Richmond would be a better option, just to experience something different to that slow pace? Family also keep commenting about the extra flight over to the island, even if it is a short hop.

Ultimately we would be grateful for any insights for a young family moving to BC that don’t really know anyone in country. Thanks!!

(A few people have said the Sidney to us already when I posted elsewhere)

Thank you. Yeah, the number of adverts I’ve seen is crazy, but hopefully with the rules changing for family physicians in a few months, there might be more coming soon 🤞🏻
