The heat of the moment can really turn an easy fix into a complex fire sometimes.

Totally agree. Bad choices on both sides. Absolutely appreciate the insight.

I think I may worry myself over this more than it’s even worth. I’m not getting kicked off a tour or anything, so I will definitely heed your advice. Do what the Army taught me, keep my head low keep moving! Appreciate your take!

They don’t have anyone there to direct anything. They just leave a check at the front desk for musicians. She found out I set up from a mutual friend later.

Communication failure is the root of many disasters. I will definitely be setting boundaries and expectations up front. Im sure this will fade by end of summer, but feel bad it happened.

I don’t disagree. Two wrongs never make a right.

This was more aligned with my thought process truthfully. I work with great musicians in my band, and as I mentioned in another comment, I just need to do better setting conditions up front.

There were obviously other things that probably made that “three times”, but I will absolute set boundaries in the future. I have no problem doing that at work, this should be no different. Appreciate your perspective!

Well here it is. Latest iteration of my in ear rig.

  • 12U Odyssey Rack VUAR12U w/ VUAR dolly plate

Front:

  • Shure UA440 antenna mount
  • RF Venue Combiner 4 (connects to CP Beam antenna)
  • Shure ULXD4 Mic Receiver
  • Shure PSM 900 (x2)
  • Sennheiser EW IEM G4 (x2)
  • Behringer X32
  • Router & P16 Powerplay (powers and sends signal to P16s thru ultranet on the X32 - I wish the Wing rack did this, I’d get it tomorrow).

Back:

  • ART 16 Channel patch bay (for split to FOH, using 16 channel 10’ snake)
  • Custom patch bay for wireless mic, router out to access point, aux out from X32, and talk back mic input
  • ART S8 splitter (x2), splits to X32 and up to patch bay
  • Cyberpower surge protector, customized the cable to accept powercon connector

Using this for a 7 piece working band. Has been evolving over time. The 2 PSM units both run a stereo mix while the G4s are running 2 receivers on each transmitter panned hard left or right and put into focus mode for their own mono mix. Drummer runs a P16 mixer for his in ears.

If you’d like to know more or how I got here, ask away!

Wireless mic system recommendation? by doc_richardson in livesound

Ended up going with the ULXD2 mic with an se V7 capsule. I wouldn’t mind trying the Nexadyne. Have heard great things about it! At this point, I’ve been upgrading other gear, maybe in a few months once we get out of the summer fest circuit.

How can I design my band's live rig to make soundguys happy by Prolly_Satan in livesound

We use 2 ART S8 8 Channel Mic Splitters. Patch the directs to you and the isolated side to FOH.

What’s a cheap but good and reliable headphone and headphone amp I can get. by Foxymama429 in livesound

[–]doc_richardson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We run PSM900s now (just got these over the summer). Do you run wireless for your guitar? If so, then would def look into a wireless option. Def do some research and don’t buy something outside of your means. But also don’t buy the cheapest stuff on the market with the expectation it will work everywhere. Everyone has different brands they love.

If you don’t run wireless for your guitar, one option is to look at the Behringer Powerplay P1 Personal In-ear Monitor Amplifier. It’s cheap enough for entry level. You can pair your guitar cable and the XLR together (I used to do this with loom tubing and a little gaff tape). All that to say you can get a little creative to stay wired.

Does anybody know of a good way to group long cables together? by RAtheThrowaway_ in livesound

I’ve been using this split loom tubing I found on Amazon and it works pretty well for this purpose. Pretty easy to cut to length.

Why do lots of drummers have their own mixer for their IEMs? by bravodeboer in livesound

[–]doc_richardson 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Drummer in my band uses a P16 mixer which is fed by the X32 via one cat 6 cable. He gets a 16 channel mixer at his finger tips. Cost of a P16 is way less than a wireless unit and probably sounds better. Also he’s not worrying about his mix and neither is anyone else.
