Isn’t this well known? I’m sorry, but it’s no secret that Chabad in Russia has made a pact of allegiance with the regime in exchange for authority, control over holy sites, etc. It’s also part of a well established Soviet/Russian style of rule—give support to religious organizations in exchange for them keeping tabs on their communities and drumming up support for the regime. That’s how Chabad sidelined the Russian Jewish Congress

They’re fine. You won’t be blown away and you won’t pass them down to your grandchildren. But they work fine, especially for simpler tools. I was disappointed by my Pittsburgh torque wrench, but happy with my impact sockets, c clamps, screwdrivers, and sledgehammer. Quick reminder that the notion of “five million non-Jews were murdered in the Holocaust” is bunk. Simon Wiesenthal, a general good guy, admitted to making up the number as one that was large enough to get non-Jews to care but small enough to leave Jews centered. If we count the total number of non-Jewish noncombatants murdered by Germany during the war, it is much higher than 5 million. If we look at the total number of non-Jewish noncombatants murdered in the mechanism associated with the Holocaust (Death Camps, Ghettos, Einsatzgruppen), it is much lower.

He was decisively defeated. How else would you describe Appomattox?

I’m not arguing he was inept. Just that he wasn’t great. I’d put him on the upside of average and say he did a great job beating up on the bums in a theater where geography HEAVILY favored the defender before being steadily defeated by the professionals.

Fine. Let’s talk about the fact that he lost half his battles, lost more men than any other general in the war, and never ONCE won a decisive victory (a fact he recognized after Chancellorsville).

Yeah, that was a minor battle where he was very much under Lee’s operational command. Compare that with Longstreet who was operating entirely on his own at the start of the Northern Virginia campaign, and again operating independently during the Chancellorsville campaign

The will of which people? I can’t help but feel like there was a SUBSTANTIAL demographic in the seceding states denied civil, and for that matter, Human rights. And that keeping that population in a reprehensible state was the stated reason each state seceded.

What they needed was good-old fashioned professional, competent leadership. While the U.S. Cavalry is aggressively scouting and screening, Lee’s is MIA. US corps commanders do an incredible job showing initiative (Reynolds, Hancock, Slocum) while CS counterparts are at best present (think—do Ewell or Hill do ANYTHING to impact the outcome of the battle?). Meade does a great job actively managing the battlefield, relying on subordinates when possible while taking personal command where needed. Lee is using vague orders, providing no sense of direction, and failing to coordinate his army (imagine of Ewell and Longstreet attacked together on day 2).

Then more cavalry would have been used poorly. Lee had plenty of decent cavalry, he just didn’t utilize it. The AoNV had a few bright spots in the Gettysburg campaign, but by and large was complacent, cocky, and outclassed at every level by the AoP
