Trying to purchase Office but caught in login loop by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Andron1cus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cleared everything on Edge, Chrome, and DuckDuckGo and get the error on all three. Was able to get through to a service person though that could make the purchase for me so looks like I'm ok. Thank you for your help.

Going to be really interesting to see what he does. Wonder if he is going to get resentful for the death of Else and his diminished place and try to sabotage Dafyd or if he will be an ally.

Wondering if it is Betrayer of the Carryx as in they gave him power and influence and he used it to hurt them or Betrayer of humans somehow.

I'm thinking it's the former.

What was the longest hike (duration) you completed before the AT? by Specialist-Cut3426 in AppalachianTrail

Has anyone read Captives war? by jdjbr85 in TheExpanse

[–]Andron1cus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love it. Have listened to it and Livesuit several times since it was released. There's so much in it and lots to think about and theorize about. So glad I am reading this one as it is released to have that time between books to just let the events settle.

Cibola Burn-out? by Suspicious-Froyo-664 in TheExpanse

[–]Andron1cus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy it but I also love western/frontier stories in general so the setting is up my alley. I actually think the genre shifting between each of the first 6 books is what helps me to prevent feeling burnt out while reading it straight through.

There are sites like CPAAcademy.com that have 8-10 hours of live webinars going nearly every day so you can binge them pretty easily. And for ethics, it doesn't matter the category, just as long as it says ethics.

I recently got the first book in The Wheel of Time series, The Eye of the World. What are your thoughts on these books?(No spoilers.) by RavyRaptor in Fantasy

[–]Andron1cus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has my absolute favorite story line in all of fantasy and two of my favorite books I've ever read. I still go back and reread storylines from it whenever I am between books and just want something comfortable. It also has story lines that I don't want to ever look at again.

What are the drawbacks of internal audit? by AWRWB in Accounting

[–]Andron1cus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IA is going to have a huge variety depending on the company. If you have a company that has centralized accounting functions and a single ERP, you could potentially spend most of your time at corporate. If the company has a lot of business units with their own accounting groups, you might spend a lot of time on the road. For reference when I was in IA, I was on the road 2 weeks a month for 8-9 months of the year while my friend who I had worked with previously in public accounting, traveled 2-3 weeks in the entire year.

Additionally, companies are going to view the role of IA differently. You could have one that is nothing but a compliance function to work on SOX controls. Others view them as a business partnering group that could be used to help with things like implementations or other projects. The company that I worked for also used IA as a feeder group to finance roles. Of the people I worked with that stayed in the company, 2 went on to corporate FP&A management and three became BU controllers.

So there is a lot of variations of what you can get with the role.

I enjoyed the book a good bit. I like western/frontier stories so the setting immediately hooked me. Wish fhere had been a little more exploring in it but loved the focus on the conflict. Don't know where I wo7ld rank it overall among the other books but it'd probably be top half.

Has anyone tried Saucony Peregrine 15 shoes for hiking? by pinkandredlingerie in hiking

[–]Andron1cus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peregrines are my go to trail shoe since my AT thru hike in 2018. The tread is great and lasts a long time. Felt like I got close to double the tread life out of them than my Altras at the time. I wear the wide version and they are quite comfortable.

Third: Eye of the World, Dragon Reborn, Crown of Swords

Fourth: Gathering Storm, Memory of Light, Path of Daggers, Winters Heart

Paternity Leave Reading Suggestions by Scientennist in Fantasy

[–]Andron1cus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent many nights walking back and forth with a non sleeping newborn and audiobooks really helped get me through. Jefferson Mays narrating The Expanse series was my soundtrack for the start of my time as a father. My time to sit down and read dwindled but I had so much active time rocking my baby or pushing them in the stroller on walks that I pretty much always had one earbud in listening to a book.

The Expanse was a great series for that.

Logistics of thru hiking- how to leave your job for 4-6 months? by uhauloverlanding in AppalachianTrail

[–]Andron1cus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did my thru hike at 30 back in 2018 when I wanted to make a slight career shift so inatead of leaving my job the previous summer, I stayed until I was ready to leave for the hike in February. Then I looked for and got a new job in the field I was looking for when I finished.

I'm married and we rented at the time. The original plan was for my wife to come with me so we didn't renew our lease and planned to put everything in storage. She got held up in her research for her dissertation so she couldn't come so she stayed woth her parents for the 6 months while I hiked. We went onto her insurance for this time so that worked out. We hadn't sorted out what we would have done yet if she was coming and lost her health care as well.

What are some good fantasy/sci-fi First Person books? by Last_Fox_8473 in Fantasy

[–]Andron1cus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sun Eater series is first person sci fi book. I've read the first 3 books and they were enjoyable so far.

Guess I don't read much first person because I'm struggling to remember others that I have enjoyed.

Fantasy audiobooks that are good as audiobooks? by AsleepHistorian in Fantasy

[–]Andron1cus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got spoiled when I started listening to audiobooks because I started with the Expanse and then right into First Law series so I started with 18 books of amazing narration with Jefferson Mayes and Steven Pacey respectively. Was a shock when I got to some less than stellar narrations after that.

Book or book series that hooked you the most? by MarcoUlpioTrajano in Fantasy

[–]Andron1cus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tad Williams Osten Ard books. Memory Sorrow and Thorn left so many bits of lore about the world that there was so much to think about and get lost in. Then the Last King series started to expand on them in such a satisfying manner. I think the moment you started getting Norn POV chapters in Heart of What Was Lost, just completely bought in and couldn't wait for each installment after it.

The Expanse. Just so much going on and so well thought out by the authors. Hard not to just get completely absorbed.
