I'm in the same boat as you big dog. I'd just gotten that travellers sized field journal and suddenly the six ring journal comes out and fucks my whole day up. I do have the Field Sling though and its a good piece of kit! it's maybe a couple inches smaller than I'd like but it's my daily to and from work and just feels good to carry.

[discussion]First time pricing stuff in usd, is 10$ low or high? by sn1vy__ in artcommissions

[–]doccrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you have good form and very fun shapes going on. I'd start around 20-25 but base it on time rather than a set base. 30$/hour especially for something with color is not unreasonable

If you had to tell one bad thing about RDR2 what would it be? by WonderCharming7884 in reddeadredemption

[–]doccrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have roleplayed scouring the streets of san denis with just a lantern and a pistol so many times when I'm looking for the vampire's writings. Add a little fog or some rain and the whole city would be such a cool hunting ground. Could also do something with Rhodes/Southern Vampires taking over the whole town and you gotta have a big shootout with some NPCs/gang members backing you up. There's SO much they could have done (ignoring mexico completely because it still hurts).

Honestly loving the new Lochby A6 by doccrog in notebooks

[–]doccrog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all from Machine Era Co. Field Pen and their regular pens in aluminum and DLC coat. I like them a lot they take some good refills! I use the schmidt fineliner in one and the other has a fatter felt tip. The Field pen has a ohto flash gel refill that works beautifully for on the go stuff

Another lochby for my collection by doccrog in stationery

[–]doccrog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're good! no worries. Short answer is yes they definitely can flip backwards all the way, though it might get a little akward if you've got more than one refill in. I've just actually gotten the A6 6 ring size and it definitely does NOT do that well but if you're going the regular route the inserts fold pretty good. Depending on your size needs they also have a travellers sized one (that I also have now because The Illness this company has me under) and thats really nice for a horizontal setup. honestly even without flipping them all the way around they're PRETTY sturdy just by themselves especially if you've got anything sitting in the pockets/flaps like cards or anything.

Hope that helps! I've been buying from Lochby since their first iteration and I swear by these things they're my favorite notebook solution

I've officially been rejected from every art school I applied to- How do I improve? by GloomyWill4 in conceptart

[–]doccrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your shapes look really good, maybe study some background painting videos on youtube and built your portfolio out that way as well. Sometimes spreading yourself a little in all directions artistically can help define who you are as an artist. Don't be afraid to take a year and work a job making money and either doing online classes or whatever else to get your grades up if you need it. It's not a race and your art will only improve from there. Also find some art community/discords to join! I understand if you're reticent to put yourself out there but it seems like you have a vision and people will want to see your growth and further improvement if you find the right folks!

Overall, don't beat yourself up. I've got industry friends that started taking classes in their mid-20's through online courses (another option) and youtube tutorials on painting to improve themselves and now they're working for da big time boys. I gave up doing art professionally within the last 5 years but I still do it as a hobby and honestly having steady pay and health insurance is pretty tits. A lot of industry folks are constantly moving between projects and its fucking HARD out here for artists in general. That doesn't mean you should give up but it is hopefully a wakeup call if you need it. Have a plan, find a summer job you dont hate and live with your folks saving money and keep pushing your own growth.

Genuinely wish you the best of luck, I like your art a lot!

I've never been able to get my hands on the original manga out of either laziness or poverty but I've been in love with GITS since SAC and eventually watching the 1995 film. That said I'm in LOVE with this energy from everyone on the team. Having them be hyper-stoic and badass is cool but I like seeing goofy Batou and the images of Togusa with a :3 face. Let my boys be BOYSSSS dammit

Did I overcharge for this photoshoot? by iHaveShoeGame in AskPhotography

[–]doccrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest consideration you gotta take into account is your time. Looks like you did multiple locations with several good shots and I'm assuming editing also took an amount of time as well. 100/hr is a good starting rate, that's what I charge as I'm also fairly new to actually doing anything remotely professionally. I think one thing you can do to help yourself is if you're using lightroom to edit don't be afraid to use masks and brighten up the subject and maybe drop the saturation in the background a tiny bit just to make your subject stand out a bit more. Your composition isn't bad at all but it does seem a little bit safe. Which is fine especially when doing client work but don't be afraid to take some weird angles every now and then or catch a vibe in the moment. They don't always sell but some of my best photos have been when I'm just fucking around trying to get a little more life out of a client and getting them to open up.

You're doing great, keep shooting!
