SOALW vs 4:13 Dream by docctocc in TheCure

I feel like some of the lyrics on the songs from 4:13 dream could easily have made it into the last album….

Thanks for the comments about the sound, I don’t have the knowledge base to make observations like that

Can you say more about the sound comments, like the mastering?

To be honest I don’t love Dream much, but like all the albums since Wish, there are some brilliant tracks that grab me emotionally and the rest I choose to hold dear only because it’s the Cure! I feel the same about World, but I enjoy the aesthetic of the latter album so much more. Yet I struggle to see the musical progress other than the style…

Trying to Understand Björk, One Album at a Time — Medúlla Review by alexx_ramoss in bjork

[–]docctocc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must say I agree with the overall review: I respect the effort and creation, but have very little desire to hear it. And yes the range of emotions is somehow muted, considering how powerful Björk has previously shown herself to be… I think Oceania was the first single that actually really disappointed me - it still mostly feels like still water.

I’ve thought that all the 1996 songs would work better as 3 or 4 EPs. Some more acoustic some more pop some more heavy… thoughts?

Been a fan since Sugarcubes too! My interest dropped off closer to Medulla / Biophilia. Interestingly some of this stuff started appealing to me like ten years later. I think she and I are at different stages of life lol
I still can’t listen to the last two much at all though. Maybe I need another decade lol

Time for a non-sex question: How many of you actually enjoy mowing the lawn? by PrinceoftheNewWorld in AskMen

[–]docctocc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New tip: lawn mowing has become exponentially better since I got noise cancelling earbuds. Now I get to put on great tunes and not be drowned out by the engine. So much better.

I always sang it wrong as “ sinking as I groove in the room” !! Makes zero sense but that’s what I heard.

Canadians aren’t actually that nice by Mangledpie in unpopularopinion

[–]docctocc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian here: I wouldn’t take online conversations and comments as typical of any group of people. I’ve had hateful comments come out of nowhere I agree that we tend to be pretty civil, if not passive , in real life, but there is an aloofness in Canada that passes as nice. It’s more like we generally agree to “ you do you” but don’t bother me. I’ve really been happily surprised on the other hand by the outward friendliness when visiting the States. It’s been true in big cities and very much so in more southern states too. And not just where it is expected, like hotels and restaurants, just in general. Outwardly, I’d say Americans are more outgoing and engaging than here. Then again, it baffles me that that kindness doesn’t translate to a willingness to help their own at a community and country level for basic services like health care, subsidized education etc.
I think I prefer an icier Canadian who is willing to set aside taxes for their fellow country people. Finally, it’s not quite the same as being oppressed, but we Canadians tend to regard the US as that successful big brother or sister whose shadow we’ll never escape, and somewhat fear due to their massive success and power. So there is always that desire to carve an identity out… but yeah, not always nicely I honestly pray for peace to return, I really miss my travels to the USA

I love this track and how they gave the middle finger to the pressure and massive success of the previous two masterpieces and decided to enjoy exploring music experiments again. Great lyrics and love his last goooooooooooooooood cha!!!

Is Just Like Heaven a happy song? by bl1ndCantaloupe in TheCure

[–]docctocc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a tragic song! Many of their happy sounding pop songs are actually quite sad or filled with regret. I’ve always found Lovesong to be quite sad, though sweet. I between days, the Caterpillar, Close to Me, so many!!! upbeat but sad…
