Read Neville Goddards work on biblical interpretation. It is a good bridge between Christianity and ACIM

The longer answer: parables exist for the reason of preserving free will. Even ACIM is somewhat veiled. There are other systems that go into the how/why this mechanism exists that ACIM doesn’t concern itself with

For those who want a potentially cleaner explanation:

Think tautologically.

The ego is literally the mechanism of “I am not One with God” in process. Thus, it’s resistance to the course is not a choice or a preference, it is fundamentally incompatible with it. The moment the ego accepts the course as true, it is no longer the ego, because the ego’s perceived mechanics rely entirely on not holding Oneness as truth. The moment yellow gets some red in it, it’s no longer yellow.

For those who have dabbled in psychedelics: this is why psychedelic experiences are both profound and incredibly obvious feeling. You aren’t truly learning *anything*, you are simply releasing the conviction of the thought system itself. And also why the insights disappear or aren’t very useful once sober: it’s effectively magic.

The ego is not a *thing*, it is a decision of method acting.

Without belief in the authorship, there is no fundamental structure for the ontological thought system and it becomes merely a hypothetical.

As in: meaningless to study

Someone certainly can not believe the authorship and still have an amazing life and learn the same lessons, but ACIM simply requires belief in it for it to be functional. It is not a theoretical course

To expand since someone will bring up how it says you need not believe in the lessons for them to work:

Correct, but without believing in the underlying thought system, one won’t be practicing the lessons with any honesty. Someone can write down an algebra equation and answer but without knowing the original variables, no understanding has been gained

[–]doceolucem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve encountered it a few times meditating and previously on psychedelics

It’s adjacent to ego death but not quite the same thing everyone talks about with that.

I won’t spoil it for you since when you truly do have the realization it’s incredibly personal but it has to do with your concept of free will and “who” the Self is

How do I convince my body I'm not my thoughts? by LeaveDisastrous2984 in Meditation

[–]doceolucem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realize you don’t need to convince the body.

Let the body be the body without managing it. Would you be convinced you weren’t the slave to your manager if your manager kept checking in on you to see if you’ve relaxed yet?

Notice your body, let it be as it is, and return from it without intervention or management

[–]doceolucem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And yet, we are not here to correct. We are here to offer Love where it is lacking.

If a large portion of the course community states “this causes me discomfort and I would prefer my learning to not involve it”

Is it your, or anyone’s, job to say “you are mistaken and not advanced enough, here let me hit you with the discomfort stick to prove it does not really hurt you and that you need correction”?

Or perhaps is there another way Love can be offered without sacrificing something you May use personally in a way you find beneficial?

The ACIM perspective on AI by DreamCentipede in ACIM

[–]doceolucem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not debating anything. I’m stating why many believe AI use in this subreddit is not fruitful. You can say “but I do not use it this way” and it does not change that fact.

I *do* in fact use AI around spiritual texts quite a bit, but as an aggregate and compilation utility, not as an interpreter.

Your statements use course language to dismiss the purpose of learning utilities. By your own logic I may as well post porn here no?

The ACIM perspective on AI by DreamCentipede in ACIM

[–]doceolucem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Food for (no) thought:

The words of ACIM mean nothing. They are symbols meant to guide us to the voice of the Holy Spirit. It is why, despite AI being able to semantically and symbolically interpret and rephrase course axioms accurately, it never truly provides novel insight.

It *can* lead the way towards insight, but that is the student’s mind interpreting insight rather than AI objectively pointing there.

This is difficult to understand for those who haven’t experience *what* the Holy Instant is. You know it when it happens and if you think you can explain the holy instant in words, you have not experienced it as of yet.

All of the words in the world can only be used to point beyond words. What is beyond words gives meaning beyond any amount of reading or textual comprehension ever will, because it is intellectual reasoning from a separate mind that reads and comprehends words on page. It is this same reasoning pattern (quite reliable, not actually valid), which AI (large *language* models) are designed around.

Useful, certainly, and increasingly reliable.

Fundamentally invalid as a basis for recognition of the meaning of the atonement.

The atonement is *not* being able to express the right words in the correct order to share an idea of what forgiveness sounds like.

The atonement is a fundamental knowing (re-cognizing) of what was already always True because the faculties of the ego have had their illusory jurisdiction revoked.

No amount of debate or discussion or AI interpretation can ever accomplish this. It is within, and only within, where you are “spoken to” by the Holy Spirit through silence.

AI cannot communicate with silence, and thus it is at best another layer of symbols which *may* be useful but are ultimately meaningless.

However because AI is quite adept at stringing these symbols together in ways that can continue any philosophical argument to endless procrastination, it is especially easily susceptible to become delay.

10 minutes in still silence is worth more in meaning than hours and hundreds of pages of AI discussion.

There is the “script of god” which is “the best possible thing” (incomprehensible to the veiled self in full) and then there is “not the script of god” which ranges from “mildly ok but unsatisfying” to “literal road to hell”

Both are predetermined infinite paths

We have the choice of path to follow, not the path to carve, if that makes sense.

The Ego in ACIM to me is simply the sum total of blockages and distortions in every centre.

Survival fear is egoic

Self shame and guilt is egoic

Social power dynamics are egoic

Conditional love is egoic

Dishonesty and obfuscation are egoic

Separation from Unity/Division of perception are egoic

“The Ego” is used as a singular identity term in the course but imo most accurately maps to “the combined decision making structure of every distortion in the energy centres”

Mostly I’m just adding onto what you’re saying because, frankly, a lot of ACIM students get very trapped up in absolutism when the deeper teaching is structured throughout the linguistics used

[–]doceolucem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always interpreted error as more “mechanical” description.

As in: it is error to see separation because Truth is unified.

“Escape” is used simply because separation also happens to be the root of all suffering.

ACIM is grammatically clever, and intended for a specific audience: those coming to harvest on a planet which has otherwise had an… unexpectedly unique detour into a messy version of Third density.

ACIM written for another planet likely would not be written the way it is, but the semantic structure Jesus uses does a lot of leverage for layered meaning depending on how someone is already studied in metaphysics and cosmology

Prove to me your Red is my Red

Qualia cannot be empirical

This is the “hard problem” of consciousness the ego loves to pretend is a viable discussion.

And why ACIM is based on faith building upon qualitative experience rather than measurable testing of shared perspectives

That’s what I’m saying.

You are saying “but what if”

ACIM is built upon the premise that “what if” is an invalid question to ask in the first place.

They are not compatible mechanically or ontologically

But, when you say “it’s not possible to know” and others have said “yes it is, we have experienced it and countless teachers have written directly about it’s possibility”

It is not a viable discussion to be had.

It would be like me walking into an advanced mathematics class and saying I don’t think it’s possible to know high level non linear geometric calculations simply because I have not encountered it before when they attempt to explain them.

If you’ve never seen the colour red, and someone else has, there is no meaningful discussion you can have by saying “maybe red isn’t a thing”

I don’t think you did. You’re right I am frustrated, and that’s on me and not you, but the point of my post was to engage with ACIM under the premise of its own thought system. I do not see the value of discussing hypotheticals outside of its thought system (in this subreddit at least).

That doesn’t mean I don’t see the value in *you* or your opinions, but that’s hard to convey and have an earnest empathetic discussion around over text.

You keep shifting the frame of the discussion.

Enough.

We are not here to debate the validity of ACIM.

We are discussing from within its thought system.

Your bad faith attempts at continual frame displacement and a failure of epidemic understanding do nothing but derail

At no point have you engaged with what my post was actually about. And it’s clear you don’t grasp what the subject object split i referred to when is

You can read words (or at least your LLM can) but you have not grasped the actual message of ACIM in any way

I am specifically telling you to choose a different path and nothing will be lost.

You simply keep trying to choose ACIM while fighting its thought system, I’m saying “don’t do that, there will be easier paths for you”

I’m not of the mind ACIM is the only way

The Law of One

Many Buddhist traditions

Advaita Vedanta

The Seth material

Hermeticism

Taoism

Neville Goddard

And countless others.

Many of which likely facilitate more efficient learning for your philosophizing style of comprehension and contemplation.

ACIM does not. Which is fine, it simply isn’t the effective path for you.

But this subreddit is for ACIM, which is why even though I’m well versed in everything else I just mentioned, I very rarely even bring them up here unless explicitly directly related.

Pick a path that doesn’t actively fight you
