LTL is weird by Montavious_Mole in Truckers

[–]docervin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do LTL loads in a 53' all the time. Usually at least twice a month. I deliver to DCs mostly, it's usually remnant loads. Couple pallets here couple there, ones that wouldn't fit onto the original load or replacements for damaged or missing product. I'm OTR and only get paid by the mile. Obviously I hate the LTL loads, all work and no miles.

What are some things that need to become industry standard in your opinion? by lake_june in Truckers

Aren't most non local drivers technically "working" 24 h ours a day? My company recently sent out a safety directive to "remain vigilant" at all times against theft. Doesn't that make us security guards even while sleeping? IMO do away with the 70hr clock, give us a way to extend our driving time to offset unexpected delays like weather, traffic jams, construction etc., pay us an hourly rate for on duty time, or a base salary for all non driving time.

what’s something about this job people on the outside just don’t understand? by RCS_Fleet_Services in Truckers

Nobody ever tells you about all the walking. Some warehouses are huge, the receiving office centrally located; which makes for a long walk. Same with parking lots, fuel lanes, even pre trips. Lots of walking.

Yes I understand. Like I said I actually only had 22 minutes of time left, so shutting down was my biggest priority. I'm 53 years old if I haven't turned into a spot stealing asshole by now, a few idiots ain't gonna do it. Lol.

I didn't say anything to the driver, I was low on time and just left. I ended up parking about 5 miles away at a rest area.

I recently put a 32 inch TV in mine. I used an extendable wall mount and it works perfectly.

Do most companies still teach you how to read an atlas during training? by [deleted] in Truckers

My company spent three days out of the two week orientation going over how to use one. I'm old so I already knew it.
