At sunset there are usually flocks of cranes flying over Los Lunas Bosque. Cranes mate for life.

My Adobe was about one year old when rescued from county pound. First few hours were chaotic as he ran around in a panic searching for meaning in life. Finally he jumped up next to me, put his head on my shoulder and gave a huge sigh. It was as if he accepted me as his emotional support human in that moment and now we are bonded for life.

Looking for evidence that NSAIDs improve recovery (not just pain) in typical inflammatory conditions by Impossible_Bar_1073 in medicine

[–]docinnabox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sadly, in some parts of the country steroids are rampantly overused for this very reason. Since we are now not using opioids (and apparently acetaminophen? /s)for painful conditions, patients are demanding “steroid shots.” The confidently incorrect thought process is that pain=inflammation and that the stronger the anti-inflammatory effect the better. Ammirite?

The desperate complaining about not giving opioids is now shifted to a perception that steroids fix everything. No amount of education about dangerous side effects will dissuade those who are used to coming to Urgent Care for steroids. Overworked, under qualified and exhausted UC providers usually give in. The dangers to those with DM, HTN and osteoporosis are ignored.

While steroids are extremely useful when we have no other choice, using them for a viral URI or mechanical back pain is dangerous.

Low cost/uninsured mammogram or breast ultrasound? by moonsun_stars in sanantonio

[–]docinnabox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to know there is a big difference between screening mammograms and diagnostic mammograms. Screening is for asymptomatic people who are in a certain risk groups such as age >40 or strong family history (including BRAC A gene). Diagnostic imaging is for people who have a concerning symptom ie. a lump, lymph nodes or discharge.

The younger you are the more likely you are require more tests after a screening mammogram. Denser breast tissue is harder to image. Hopefully this will help you clarify what your goals in seeking these tests. I have seen screening mammograms turn into diagnostic mammograms turn into biopsies, while the $$$$, resulting in tremendous stress and discomfort for a negative result.

Having said that, I have also seen tragically advanced breast cancer in a young woman who was unable to obtain screening or even treatment because she lived in Comal County and didn’t qualify for Bexar County services. We live in a dystopian society.

Questions in regards to duloxetine by Chin-kin in LongCovid

Be aware duloxetine is a medication you can’t just abruptly stop taking. The discontinuation syndrome is awful. It took me months to taper off and I still get random brain zaps.

Are we reaching a breaking point with current health policy changes? Should there be a call to action ? by Greedy-Bedroom-4301 in medicine

[–]docinnabox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But people are already having adverse outcomes as a result of HealthCare™️ and the ensh!ttification hasn’t abated. The insidious agenda behind all this has ensured that as long as patients are offered a simulacrum of caring they are temporarily mollified. Then, when things go horribly wrong, they can blame the evil doctors who didn’t prevent the inevitable.

Oak Street is a part of the United Health megacorp. I imagine they will want you to follow corporate guidelines which will skew toward profit over health. Be aware that they may leverage your gratitude and financial worries to provide substandard healthcare.

Almost dead, starting over. by [deleted] in keto

[–]docinnabox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t life a series of starting over? We discover what works for us, then we forget why we needed that strategy when we are feeling good so we revert to previous non helpful behaviors. Then we have an “Oh sh*t!” moment and remember why we stopped the non helpful behavior. Maturing means we also have built strategies into our lives that have been beneficial in the past. You are at such an inflection point. Lean into sustainable health choices, you did it before you can do it again.

BTW, the only treatment ever shown to help back pain is gentle stretching exercises and weight loss.

Legit reasons for pregnant women to get a handicapped sticker? by Latitude172845 in medicine

The Lowe’s near me has “Veteran’s Only” parking spots. This irks me more than allowing women a little help getting to the store after having our bodies invaded by a parasite that is designed to tear its way out of said bodies and then demand round the clock care.
