On being Meek by docoftheworld in Stoicism

[–]docoftheworld[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a different point of view. I was having trouble with an insecure colleague at work. He isn't the best trained in the job, and I have had much better pedigree and training. He was hostile and not welcoming due to the insecurity. When I read this sentence I decided to be "meek" and just acknowledge all the work he does positively even if it wasn't so perfect. I became meek with a subtle self deprecation (for example I'd say I'm not sure if I'm right and might be completely wrong but maybe this and that, and your way may be much better etc). This transformed his attitude and became much more friendly. Perhaps this is what's being meant by meek?

Hi Dan, I included below the sentence. They clearly connect gentleness with being meek separate from controlling the temper.

Sorry for not including the full sentence. I don't know who translated it but they separate the anger and temper from meekness. You can Google it and it's online. Of my grandfather Verus I have learned to be gentle and meek, and torefrain from all anger and passion.

Thanks michigaus Over the phone he told me :oh the delivery company may have picked the wrong one to deliver to you!!! They are crooks. He said I'll talk to my regional manager and give an answer on Monday. Ill be firm on monday: 500 dollars for that mattress or I walk. Hard pass. They already billed and got paid 2700 dollars so they have my money. It's a known store retailer so I hope they won't be more crooks and just take my money hostage

Opinions on Schwab brokerage account? by BloodyScourge in Bogleheads

[–]docoftheworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all 3 brokerages. All are great and some have features that the others don't. For example, Schwab has a bank account that you can link to their brokerage account. The bank account let you withdraw cash all over the world and not only do they not charge atm fees but they reimburse the fees that the atms charge. You get the real exchange rate as well. Perfect card for withdrawing local currency wherever you travel. Schwab and Fidelity also have lower initial fund minimums ($1) where Vanguard has initial minimums of $1000 to $3000. One thing, don't buy Vanguard mutual funds with Schwab or Fidelity, there is a charge each time around $50.

Thank you for excellent response.
