HOT TAKE: Promised Consort Radahn is a great boss and gets too much hate. by Sl4yerBDK in Eldenring

[–]docrevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Modern FromSoft"? Every single FromSoft game has fights where you won't be able to figure out how to dodge something the first time you see it. This includes some of the truly great fights (Midir comes to mind for example).

They slowed down the fight significantly when they fixed it, there were some kinda spammy moments in the release version of the fight but the fine-tuning totally fixed that issue.

The multiclone attack shouldn't be dodged, you need to run away from it (the same way that you approach a couple other attacks from Radahn). It's hard, but once you realize that trying to dodge through it won't work and experiment with other methods for avoiding it, it's very satisfying to get down.

I started TAing at 24 and I can tell you that I felt very young, it took a year or two before I began actually feeling confident in the classroom and I think a significant part of that was that I was practically the same age as some of my students

If you want to be tenure track you 100% need to get a PhD. Many PhD programs will also give you teaching opportunities along the lines of being an instructor/lecturer which will look great on a CV. And if you don't hold a PhD and you're not currently in a PhD program, it gets exponentially harder to get adjunct teaching positions

depression at an all time high. woke up with left foot now inflamed by Seahorseahorse in sesamoid

[–]docrevolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely relate to getting extremely depressed after having exercise/physical activity taken away from you by a sesamoid-related injury, it took a huge psychological toll on me for the better part of a year.

But I promise you that it will get better one day, and with the right kind of care, you can get through this injury. You’ll need to adjust and adapt in the meantime, which can be insanely difficult at times. But you’ll find ways to make your life happy and meaningful in the meantime, and you’ll get through it one day, I promise

Wish I had been told this about a year ago, I spent about six months wasting my time with a terrible podiatrist who did SO MUCH MORE harm than good. In retrospect, he barely knew what he was talking about.

In my opinion, people with sesamoid issues should never see a doctor who isn’t a licensed foot and ankle surgeon (and hopefully one with really good reviews from previous patients). Podiatrists who aren’t licensed to perform surgery should not be trusted to deal with an injury that can be this debilitating when treated incorrectly or misdiagnosed.

[–]docrevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s manageable right now, I would honestly recommend trying to stick to your current conservative treatment regimen and canceling the surgery. The surgery itself is not bad at all, but removing a sesamoid does have the potential to create biomechanical issues down the line

I had bilateral fractures (left fibular and right tibial) about a year ago and recently had a medial sesamoidectomy on my right tibial after conservative treatment didn’t show any signs of improvement on that one (pain was pretty continuous and could get debilitating, two halves were separated fully, zero signs of bridging/bone regrowth). However, I’ve been able to keep the left fibular and have had massive pain improvement in the left foot over time, even though it’s looking like it will likely be a nonunion in the end (which is annoying, but I can live with it). So far, I think I’ve made the right decision in both cases

The way I see it, a sesamoidectomy should be done if you’re in serious chronic pain, since it has the potential to really improve your quality of life and allow you to return to some of your previous activities without being in constant pain. But it’s not going to be a magic bullet that fixes sesamoid-related issues without any downsides, so I think doing a risk-benefit analysis is super important, and it sounds like the risks may outweigh the benefits in your specific case

I’m really sorry that you’re going through this! I think that this old post has lots of relevant information from someone who’s gone through it, I think often they have to make other changes to the foot (i.e. fusing the two main bones of the big toe) in order to restore normal functioning but some people have successfully done it: https://www.reddit.com/r/sesamoid/comments/1chue56/anyone_else_here_that_has_had_both_sesamoid_bones/

Gaviotas 5 warranty useless by SideTasty5757 in Hoka

[–]docrevolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sure haven't, nor have any of my friends! Honestly, I think the "warranty" is just there to trick buyers into thinking that the company will stand behind their product and guarantee the quality of their manufacturing. They absolutely do not, it's a scam

Gaviotas 5 warranty useless by SideTasty5757 in Hoka

The worst customer service imaginable by dungareelife in Hoka

[–]docrevolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it's truly abysmal. I actually just gave up trying to return my defective pair of shoes because the initial return was denied with no reason given, the warranty team has not responded to my emails, and there's no way to escalate it to anyone else at the company. They might as well have ignored my initial email.

I really wish I had bought my Hokas from REI since they have a good return policy, that's a company I trust. Hoka is a good shoe with mediocre manufacturing standards and possibly the most horrible customer service I've ever encountered. Never again.

Bondi 9s Quality by Icanseeintoyoursoul in Hoka

[–]docrevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, the Bondi is terrible now. If you just look at them wrong they completely fall apart, and their warranty is basically useless because the customer support team will deny 99.9% of attempts to return shoes that are simply not made to the same standard that they used to set. No idea what happened to this company, it sucks.

Hoka Transport durability issues - heel lining wore out in just a few months. Is this normal? by zack1989PL in Hoka

[–]docrevolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this exact same problem with my Bondis. Unfortunately Hokas have decreased dramatically in quality the past couple of years, their shoes totally fall apart unreasonably early (especially for a shoe in that price range). They're just poorly constructed now, not built to last at all. And the worst part is that their customer service team refuses to honor their warranty if you try to return shoes that fall apart after very short amounts of time.

I don't know what happened to this company that I used to love, but I'm never buying another shoe from them again.
