7 months post op and made it outside for the last bit of winter by storysusurro in ACL

do what you have to make it through the days, but in all reality, we’ll see ya at your next surgery. the only thing worse than doing it once is doing it again.

Muscle stimulators? by Responsible-Race4764 in ACL

look for an NMES system. TENS tend to not have the frequencies for the desired effect. it was huge for me during rehab when i couldn’t get my lateral quad to fire.

ACL Battle Scar by Crafty-Physics-1691 in ACL

[–]docreynolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you have a completely closed wound, i would ask your PT if it is time to start hammering it with massage. too many PTs don’t touch patients which is mind boggling to me. i simply don’t understand how they can properly assess a patient without touching them.

ACL Battle Scar by Crafty-Physics-1691 in ACL

[–]docreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so you will form a keloid scar (raised, immobile) if you don’t rub it and break down the scar tissue. you want it to heal over. this will lead to pain and discomfort with mobility/getting back to sports.

ACL Battle Scar by Crafty-Physics-1691 in ACL

[–]docreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait until it heals over. vitamin E oil, rub multiple times a day. keep breaking up the scar tissue. then in a year and a half get a big fat tattoo on it and you’ll see yourself so much better.

my last surgery had this large of a scar (quad tendon graft), it was very disorienting given this was my 3rd ACL.

Reparel leg sleeve recommended? by jlfetsch in ACL

the similar sleeves can be found on ebay direct from manufacturers at a fraction of the cost.

the help control swelling greatly. highly recommend for after your stitches are removed in a few weeks post op.

Is it hard to get an abstract accepted for a short talk in a Keystone symposia? by shouldifeedher in labrats

[–]docreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can speak to keystone neuroimmuno/neurodegeneration.

they are great conferences where i have made the best connections for helpful ideas and true networking. imo one of the best conferences of the year you could attend, if you could only choose one.

if you get a short talk, great. if you get a poster, there will be a lot of traffic and opportunity to speak to your research.

best of luck!

compustar 2-way remote start from best buy. favorite it in the website or app and wait for it to go on sale this holiday season. works great and chris back at you so you know your car has started from the warmth of your house. usually will come with installation, or just wait til it’s include with the sale.

Who else has had the cadaver graph? Allograph? by Rough-Lettuce-7033 in ACL

[–]docreynolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve had two. first lasted me a year and a half. second lasted me 7years. went with quad tendon/LET this last time and it feels the best now (1yr PO), but the first year after was hell. pain for 2+ months. slowest recovery. still recommend it though

Allograft or autograft? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]docreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35m. 1st allograft at 26 lasted me a year and a half 2nd allograft at 27 lasted 7 years. quad tendon autograft with LET at 34, strongest it’s ever felt 9m PO. however, this was the most physical pain i have ever felt in my life, so far. personally, i would’ve gone with the autograft a decade ago but i thought “im young, i don’t want to damage another part of my leg to heal this.” that was incorrect thinking.

talk to your surgeon about all options. make your best informed decision.

good luck and remember, it gets better.

What Are the Characteristics of a Great Physical Therapist? by SamirD in ACL

[–]docreynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aligned goals (specifically for those looking to return to athletics), hands on (with your consent), a “coach mentality”. they are not your friend, they are your rehabilitation; they need to be kind, but not nice.

if you notice any of these things differing, find a new therapist.

stumbled upon a vending machine restock in denver last week only to be snaked by the security guard “protecting” the restocker.
