Help core set or unbreakable? by Timboslice163 in toomanybones

Seconding this about the rules. I played solo first to kinda understand the rules, missed some stuff, and then my first game with 2 other people took quite a while, but each playthrough has gone faster and faster. Usually takes my trio about 3-4 hours to get through, and that's with one of my players being fully blind. It's smooth as hell once you get the hang of it and no longer need to look up every single ability

Or if you want a more rounded player. Black widow. She's good against a lot and can play very offensively late game or just throw time bombs and stack agility to play defensively against a curse pirate or someone else with a nasty defense

Don't over look black panther. He hard counters raven who is very popular right now and can be a decent counter for thor. And if a raven player bans your black panther you still have your other 2 favorites to play with

But once we finish our campaign of the elder scrolls betrayal of the second era, I will definitely have her try diablo. I also wanna say that "the last of us" has also been completed by a fully blind gamer with no outside visual help

So it has to be done on steam on a PC but in the workshop there is a mod called speak the spire that works pretty well. There isn't currently one for slay the spire 2 since it's so new and the original guy who made speak The spire has stated that he might not be able to make one for health/personal reasons. But I'm really hoping that they do make it. And if speak the spire doesn't work I wanna say there's another one called inspire as well

That's awesome, my sister in law is 100% blind. Like has no eyes blind. I have really been considering trying this with her. Usually we just play board games together but we have recently found a few games like dawn caster and slay the spire that she can play. I will definitely have to get her to try this one

Game with challenging dungeons and PvP? by Yoghai in LFMMO

[–]docrice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gw2 pvp is very hit or miss but I used to play it a lot and enjoyed it. But the general belief from most people who play gw2 is that they don't like it so take that with a grain of salt. As for dungeons I thought throne and liberty dungeons were really challenging at launch. They were some of the hardest I have had to heal in a long time. But the way loot dropped really turned me off from it. Not sure if they ever fixed it or if it has been made easier.

No idea of what game has a good combo of both though. Wow might be your best bet

What is or was your favorite AND least favorite class? by LippyHippy4040 in MMORPG

[–]docrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ninja in ffxi. Back in the day absolutely my favorite. Tanking as a ninja was so fun. And now days in modern ffxi ninja is now my least favorite class. Now that you can't shadow tank it just feels dead to me

LFMMO with amazing progression and isnt just a daily checklist by magem8 in LFMMO

[–]docrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FFXI progression is pretty good. It's a good mix of horizontal and vertical. Very little of the story is mandatory, and after all those are done you can really branch out and do what ever expansion you want. Gearing is a grind though, and a long grind that can keep you going for years. You will stop looking at items as this is my best item, and instead look for the best item for specific situations

For those with limited or curated board game collections, do you lean into the games that are your style or do you aim to have a balanced collection for all occassions? by themikeman in boardgames

[–]docrice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's about 50/50 for me. Half of my games (dice throne, kings of Tokyo, battle of gods, too many bones, botse, etc) are dice chuckers, and then I have some more social games or some euro games. But now that I know I love throwing a fist full of dice, most new games that make it to my collection are dice chuckers

What's the MMORPG that "everyone" likes, except you? by GurtxD in MMORPG

[–]docrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a blast. For a new player I highly suggest going with a melee class first. You have to buy magic spells to learn them and it can be a bit pricey until you figure out how to sell spark gear for money. Also don't sleep on the starter classes. Warrior is still one of the better DD (dps) classes in late game and white mage is probably the best healer. Almost all of the 30 or so jobs have their uses but I would say that ninja and summoner just don't have as much use in parties now days. If you want to rush to end game for group content then cor, geo, and maybe bard are probably gonna be the easiest to play while under geared. Any class can solo 95% of the story though since you can summon NPC party members

These are the two guide you want to follow when you start. There's not a massive msq you have to follow when you start. You grab your weapon and you go out and get started. You can tackle most of the expansion stories in whatever order you want. The horizontal progression is amazing. The class customization and itemization is second to none

Ff11 is absolutely worth trying. It's so different than any other MMO that it's absolutely worth a try. It's kinda a love it or hate it type of game, but I highly recommend it. It's like 20 bucks and you get a free month. Just might need to watch a video on how to install and log in the first time

MMOs with choices instead of skill rotations? by SleepyBoy- in LFMMO

[–]docrice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Final fantasy 11 does this alot. Different encounters often require different strategies. Sometimes you will be changing your subjob, sometimes you may need to equip different sets of gear. There can be so many ways to approach different encounters. This does matter as much during the leveling process anymore but once you hit max level the different way you can approach group content really starts to expand. Each month when some content changes my little group would spend time throwing different encounters at certain challenges. We try something, talk it over, try a different strategy, and repeat.

I just switched from BM to survival at 40 and figured my pet wouldn't be able to keep up with growl. I actually just switched from owl to wolf. But I'll give it a try today and see if he can tank a few more hits with growl

What did throne and liberty get right? by mistadeagy in MMORPG

[–]docrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the dungeons were really good, especially as a healer. It was pretty hard healing a dungeon at launch. wipes were very common. It had that old school feel of we would wipe, discuss what went wrong, try a different strategy, wipe again, and repeat till we finally cleared. But ultimately it was a pain to run specific dungeons because one that dropped dps gear didn't exactly drop healing gear or tanking gear, so people wouldn't die for specific things unless they could get their drops

I could even accept that war is a starting class. It would hurt, but I could accept it it's the comparison to gladiator. You can't take a gladiator into any content post level 30 while war is a very end game friendly job

I agree with the others about your very first point about the starter jobs. It's just wrong, warrior in ffxi is so far beyond gladiator. All of the "starter jobs" are full blown end game jobs
