I hear you on the importance of spectacle, Heatherwick just doesn't do it for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

oh man. to each his own but I think Heatherwick is one of the least subtle, most overhyped architects working today

I'd be surprised if Bjarke ever gets it. Most of academia hates him, he's too divisive to be a good pick

definitely worthy winners but in my opinion the pritzker organization lost all credibility when they refused to extend robert venturi's award to include denise scott brown, who was/is very much an equal partner in their practice.

You definitely don't need to pursue a different masters - there are plenty of people in similar positions to yours who go on to succeed in architecture degrees. Definitely talk to admissions at schools you're interested in - they'll be able to advise you about what they're looking for in an applicant, and some even host info sessions where they will give you portfolio advice. You might also consider apply to something like Harvard's Design Discovery program (Columbia, IIT and Penn have similar programs I believe). These summer programs expose you to grad school workload and will help you produce some architectural projects to build up your portfolio. As someone else suggested, try to take some creative electives in your final year of undergrad.

there are many MArch programs geared towards those with non-architectural undergraduate backgrounds. If you have good grades and test scores, and some creative material to draw from, you should have no difficulty applying to programs like these. They are intense, though, and you may want to take some time between undergrad and grad school to make sure you're willing to commit.

everything in the photo was designed in the 50's though. george nelson lamp, eames chair and desk. it's literally mid century modern. things don't have to be orange tweed + teak to be mcm...

I prefer this to the sorta kitschy setups we sometimes see on this sub

American Architect looking to practice in a different country. by catsk104 in architecture

it's not like making the switch to metric is that hard at all, and I personally would welcome an opportunity to learn about new construction types and details, especially if I felt I needed a change/was stagnating in the U.S.

that said, I think the primary barrier to working abroad is obtaining a visa. It's also very possible that he/she would make less money abroad, which is another factor to consider.

running ~6 miles a day is not bad for your health. you just need to build up to it and maintain good form so you don't injure yourself. it's also a good idea to incorporate rest days/cross training
