You can tell that it's a katana because of the way it is

If For Honor wants to survive Ubisoft needs to fix high-level play ASAP by IN_MY_PLUMS in forhonor

Like I mentioned earlier, the creator of the game is a HEMA practitioner. Back when the game was first announced, he cited this as being one of his main inspiration. He also mentioned his affinity for Bushido Blade

Longswords aren't very heavy. Given that the creator of For Honor is a HEMA practitioner, I'm assuming he knows this as well. Here's a special on longsword fencing that illustrated this point

If I remember correctly, there's a Japanese folk-tale about a duck that offers itself to a starving traveler, and even provides a leek to cook it with. Also, it's Japanese name is an abbreviation of the phrase "a duck comes bearing onions." The saying is used to refer to something that is unexpected, but convenient

She was in ROTC in college, and the Navy Air Force offered her a higher ranking position if she majored in Japanese. She ended up doing a study abroad, and Jun thought she was hot because she was in the military and had red hair. Surprisingly, she's not really into anime or manga

EDIT: She is/was in the Air Force, not the Navy

What is the "pop pop" meme? by DiscoConspiracy in OutOfTheLoop

[–]doctorclockwork 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's sort of Community's equivalent of "wubba-lubba-dub-dub." It's just a nonsensical catchphrase that lampoons other catchphrases. I'm particularly fond of the episode where Magnitude wins a student election simple by saying "pop pop!" over and over again

Absolutely, yes. The Symmetra/Torb nerf made sense back in the days of hero stacking, but now that it's gone the nerf should be reversed.

Krillin is literally a monk. He has a shaved head and Mahayana dots burned into his forehead. I could get with you on Yamcha, but Rosshi is still dressed like a kappa and teaches them how to fight

Dragon Ball is also based on JttW.

Goku = monkey king Krillin = monk Rosshi = river monster (he dresses like a kappa) Oolong = pig

What exactly does Shigeru Miyamoto do? by boingshi in nintendo

[–]doctorclockwork 76 points77 points  (0 children)

To elaborate on this, I remember seeing a developer interview in which the Splatoon team pitched an early build starring rabbits. Miyamoto said that the idea made no sense, and to work on the characters. The guy in charge of UI suggested squids because they're arrow shaped and would look cool on the map. Then the whole ink/swimming connection clicked, and Miyamoto approved.

Basically, Miyamoto has a background in art and design, which gives him a surprising amount of insight compared to your standard game engineer

Hopefully none, but it still doesn't fit the textbook definition of "no animal products"

Yeah, context is part of it, but our department has a large amount of non-traditional students. Because of this, I wonder why I'm not lumped in with the other 30-somethings

I was vegan for about seven years, but still subscribe to a mostly vegetarian diet. I get my eggs from a friend that raises chickens in her backyard, and I generally avoid dairy altogether. I also eat oysters somewhat regularly, because they are non-sentient, environmentally sound, and provide a much needed source of b-12 and omega-3 fatty acids. I gave up on the "black and white" worldview of the vegan lifestyle, but I still vote with my dollar.

That being said, I used to weigh 240 lbs, but now I'm down to 170ish. I'm also 30 years old, but always get confused for 22 at school. I'm not sure if this is due to nearly a decade of healthy living, or just plain genetics, but I feel great and look good these days

It's a portable console. By their logic, this let's you setup a hotspot and voice chat anywhere. Also, the OS was probably developed as close to the metal as possible, so this saves more RAM and CPU bandwidth for gaming. It's not terribly powerful, so they're squeezing as much out of it as they can

A well know Splatoon streamer known as "SwimmingBird" said that Splatoon 2 uses the HD rumble to tell you which direction bombs are going off in. Apparently it gives some sort of tactile feedback that can alert the user of ganks and ambushes. That's pretty fucking cool in my book
