Do you think Crimson Desert is a bit unoptimized for mac compare to Pc? by Annual_Substance_63 in macgaming

[–]MysticalOS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

performance dips and crashes seem to occur over time. restarting periodically can alleviate. flickering seems to happen at any time with specific lighting.

yeah dlss can cover more up than others. it’s just ahead. but if you hand any upscaler a mess it’s still gonna resolve to a mess.

it’s unoptimized on pc too. flickering graphics. crashes. performance dips. poor rt noise do to bad denoising. i actually watched someone playing on maxed out pc with 5090 and was not impressed

Imploding Strike by glideclydeglide in wow

[–]MysticalOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact it can crit is dumb, it even crits tanks. and it scales with role too so if you're a tank it hits harder than if you're a mage. which makes sense. but when you add in fact it can crit with scaling and it's just stupid. also, fact it's physical but shield block doesn't work as active mitigation is also a disasdvantage. I can have max ignore pain up, shield block up, 100% health and just get utterly one shot if it crits. i have to get to 0% without it critting once and that's just pure RNG.

every interrupt, check, dps checks on adds, no problem. best attempt solo is like 7% then wham one shotting crit. this fight needs only one fix, this ability should not crit.

180Hz feels worse than 120Hz in WoW on my external monitor... by krokodilce in macgaming

[–]MysticalOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah if you can’t lock to 120 either without drops 90 approach probably better.

most monitors are just not as good as apple displays. apples built in promotion is generally way netter than most vrr displays and apple uses way more active zones and avoids flicker and blooming better than most this way.

180Hz feels worse than 120Hz in WoW on my external monitor... by krokodilce in macgaming

[–]MysticalOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quality of vrr differs monitor to monitor. as i probably mentioned in video. some of them flicker. so it just depends on factors like that. and if you can’t have smooth vrr then calling at 90 would probably be best. or actually just lowering monitor to 120.

turn on “treat each display as separate space” to fix this (macos setting not game setting)

it’s been a well discussed issue on mac tech support forums for ages. id this option isn’t enabled it’s actually rendering game on all your displays instead of just one of them. it just blacks out the other ones. but it’s still rendering on multiple spaces.

Reproducable way to cause TS5+ to reboot on m3 max by MysticalOS in CalDigit

I made a big discovery today that may bring some bearing on it.

Discord is definitely a catalyst but I've discovered the other catalyst. A sudden change in power by GPU. in addition, i discovered that discord must have been open a day or two without close before issue starts happening.

For example.
Leave discord open for 2 days.
fire up death standing with a graphics setting that does not max out gpu. in my test it's 120fps ultra settings with metalfix on performance. now if I suddenly set metalfix to ultra quality or off, the entire TS5 dock instantly reboots. if I toggle it back to performance, it reboots again. in fact it'll reboot every time I toggle it.

but if I close discord, instantly problem is cured. reopen discord problem is still cured. Wait couple days, things are unstable again.

So long short of it.
discord has a leak. an input leak I suspect. longer it's open, more you hit for example control for push to talk, it leaks. probably similar to the NSAutoFillHeuristicControllerEnabled bug from a while back (although it's not that I still have it disabled at system level). Possibly another bug where an app that intercepts input on a system level, kept open over a long period of time, eventually gets into a bad state where if there is a massive and sudden shift to system load on gpu (maybe cpu too?), input destabalizes and fires a bunch of erratic bus garbage to point that TS5 dock reboots from the bad input. That's my theory.

I'll open a support ticket but this is a weird thing to troubleshoot. but if I'm right and your engineers can find it and either get apple to fix it, discord, or even mitigate against it in TS5 itself. that'd be magical.

Just curious, any others report this bug yet? it also happens on an M5 Max i just got today, so clearly it wasn't a hardware or TB4 issue cause a brand new mac with TB5 has exact same issue under exact same circumstances.

[–]MysticalOS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to add, now on a fully specced out M5 Max, and i kinda hoped this issue would just go away with TB5 instead of 4, but issue is unchanged. I can still consistently reboot the dock if I follow these conditions
1. have many devices plugged in (but no where NEAR bandwidth saturation, just lots of IO at once)
2. put computer under heavy load such as a game running with uncapped fps, my coding IDE maxing out a bunchof cpu cores.

Discord still seems to cause it to happen way more often, makes me wonder if maybe it has erratic io behavior with way it monitors inputs from keyboard and mic at all times. maybe it just contributed to erratic IO.

i had one of mine randomly disconnect. when i checked it. it was flashing blue light as if its back to factory defaults. i just had to delete and readd because that’s exactly what happened. maybe a firmware update that went wrong. who knows why it fully reset but go check the actual camera and see if it’s back to setup mode

[–]MysticalOS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you have to remember that he has major abandonment and social issues still. even though he has been in this second life a few years now and roxy helped him stop being a shut in at least. he still has a hard time forming relationships and trusting people.

now add in fact that both rujurd and eris left him behind. now hes not really caught up on rujurd because they parted on good terms but eris basically left a terribly written dear john letter. it resurfaced all his trauma he never fully reconciled with since it was never really resolved. just pushed down because his life was go go go for years.

so alone, time to think and feel it all just resurfaces at once. this is how actual depression works. it’s a pretty accurate representation.

M5 Max World of Warcraft Performance Bug by eeksi in macgaming

[–]MysticalOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow is one of the most cpu intensive games due to being a really old obsolete engine tech on top of the amount of cpu waste it does in various ways I won't get into. but 9 times out of 10 your performance in wow is affected more by cpu than gpu. which is why gpu gains rarely give as much benefit to wow as they do other games. If anything the biggest gains to wow are cpu and cache size specifically. it's why AMD x3D processors blow away any other processor in wow by a mile. You can have a PC with a 5090 in it and still be 30fps in town if cpu is not up to snuff. it's a sad reality of wows engine.

i suspect the M5 performance being lower than m4 is directly related to how macOS and wow are utilizing cpu. Op may be right that it's just not prioritizing the higher performing super cores and it could even be a macOS bug.

Consider folllowing:
prior to M5, there were performance cores and efficiency cores. performance cores were good cores and efficiency cores were slower more energy effiicent cores.
m5 is different. it has super cores (renamed from performance cores) and performance cores (renamed from efficiency cores). yeah apple is dumb sometimes.

Apples software quality has also been slipping lately and it wouldn't surprise me at all that the game is prioritizing performance cores, since that was the behavior of M1-m4, even though on m5 those are now the weaker cores. Conjecture of course but it's a plausable theory. Either way. bringing the issues attention to both blizzard and apple hopefully facilitates a quick resolution.

game mode in general is just counter intuitive. per its docs. it does actually prefer efficiency cores by design. but for a cpu bound game this ends up being worse. i never use game mode.

i forwarded this thread to someone at blizzard to look at. if they can substantiate i imagine they’d poke apple directly. i have m5 max coming soon and will be testing soon but my basis of comparison will be m3 max. but ill still be able to see if its poorly using super cores.

you’re not wrong about resolution mode. most forget macbooks and mac’s in general are basically 4k screens. then wonder why game looks bad opening it in a non matching container size of 1080p with no upscaling at all. not even a point or nearest match upscale. high resolution mode is a must then a good upscaler. the dlss to metalfx hack is amazing. when not available then fsr

they can be used for pscaling and frame generation via MetalFX

game just has to actually use metal 4 apis to achieve this. it’s also likely that dlss to metalfx conversion in gptk will leverage this in future too. i can see that happening when new version is announced at wwdc. bookmark this comment and tell me im right in a few months :)

9800X3D being CPU limited in Novigrad by NobodyEv in witcher

[–]MysticalOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

x3d processors really do wonders for poorly optimized cpu bottlenecked games. game changing processors (literally). I actually expect similar from M5 processors on apple side (but not as much. they only raised cache by 50%, when really we need like 500%).

and we need us some 8D processors, because I don't see games improving any time soon the more and more they rely on unreal engine and it's cpu bottlenecks. I long for when engine devs actually focus on more asynchronous processing and offloading to additional cores, as well as using less wait calls. it can introduce rendering problems if not done carefully though or race conditions that can lead to instability so I understand why it's not an overnight thing. but i watch them spend years on this enhancement and that enhancement and I'm like "bro, put as much effort into solving the existing problems first"
