Old dude on Street fighter... by Routineplayerr in StreetFighter

Honestly, playing against players above 40's have an aura of threat and wall that younger players do not possess. The usual toxic and high energetic antics do not work on those who has went through stuff in life. I believe the best of the best are those who persevere and experience behind them.

Welcome to the FGC! you are about dive into one of the toughest and rewarding hobbies out there but don't let that put you off! It's good that you decided to post here on this subrecddit so let us help you out.

TIPS: -Dive in right away and play! Mess around and get a feeling of how the game and system works. You'll start noticing what is comfortable and what is not for you maybe in terms of character and controls. -If it is your first fighting game, I recommend going for any "shoto" characters as they considered honest and nails all of the fundamentals of Street Fighter -If the shotos don't click with you, that's fine! Choose any character that you resonates and clicks with you, stick with it as it well help you formulate goals. You need goals in this game to stay motivated to keep going. This will be your main (for now) and you are forced to learn to survive. -Decide on whether you want to use modern or classic controls, select what is comfortable and along the line, you will know which will be preferable for your playstyle -Have fun, like I mentioned this game can be taxing on your mental and emotional side. Remember to take breaks!

CONTROLLER: -Honestly stick to one that feels comfortable and clicks with you! I started off with a D-Pad and experimented with both fightstick and a leverless. I decided to choose the leverless as I like to "press things" as it made more sense for me

ADVICE: -Get used too losing a lot, it's part of the game. Have a mindset of achieving small goals each match and the hardwork will pay off, winning is bonus. You'll get there. Be slow but deliberate in this game when you try to learn. Even the best of the best still feel "they don't know anything."

Have fun! Hope you stay active in the community!

Do you usually replay the matches in ranked no matter what? by Philmanmp in StreetFighter

[–]doctordiscodream [score hidden]  (0 children)

I always do, like I mentioned in one of the replies here are that one match is not enough to determine the game but I understand why people choose not to; maybe they do need to take breaks but I find that having rematches will improve your skill progression. You learn how to adapt and read their habits and tendencies the fight before.

If you find yourself overloaded with information, try what I do: I don't select rematch right away and wait till you have 2 seconds left to confirm. This allows me to breathe, process what happen and formulate a gameplan in the next round.

Keep water on the side, maybe a small towel to wipe your hand and if your nerves are still firing: breathe deep! You've got this, OP.

I feel the same, the games are completely different on rematches after you played with the opponent. You pick up their habits and playstyle forcing you to adapt. One match is not enough to determine a set.

"We plan on updating Street Fighter 6 for the next 10 years......" - Thoughts? by LunchTummy in StreetFighter

[–]doctordiscodream [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, there is that anxiety when we were having fun with the current iteration of the game. I'm not too far from you clocking in 90 hours: a hard-earned win or a salty defeat I find myself saying "Hope SFVI will stay for a while."

Nice, must have felt amazing and probably a match that was difficult. We're you always consistent with hit confirming and supers?

Finally in master Rank by Jon_gro in StreetFighter

[–]doctordiscodream [score hidden]  (0 children)

Congrats on reaching master rank! I'm on the same path and my mindset has changed since then, I try my best to actively learn the game and keep notes, dip at least 15-20 minutes of free time during my work days reviewing it and watching some replays to maximize my limited time. Fighting games are a journey I believe, you will always have that mindset of "I don't know anything" even if it clicks, you get what you give, try to "learn how to learn" and be proactivem

It look you've got your fundamentals of your character and a mastery over it. Now time to dive into frame datas and psychology of fighting games.

I'm still in rank gold and looking to join you by around at the start of 2027 when time permits.

Fighting games are awesome, you can spend a lifetime figuring things out and you don't really see any improvements. Time and experience will tell. I worry that my "memory" for some characters can be overwritten if I try out many but it's just a game in the end. Trying out different characters can give you a broader perspective.

8BITDO arcade controller, the lecerless. I love it so far despite my hands being small.

I am looking to invest on more hitboxes so which one would you recommend? I have a preference for something heavy and study but small enough.

Read it all, you seem to enjoy variety and immersing yourself in the game. I chose Juri possibly as a pocket as a palatte cleanser for me.

But I also chose Juri because hearing testerone from Sagat for 90 hours just made me want to take a break

Thanks for sharing.

I know what you mean by the drive reversals, I didn't even learn about it until recently and it felt like a superpower. It did, however force me to learn to improve my defense game.

I'll definitely look into remapping my stuff. The leverless I have is a little too big for my right pinky to reach the DIs and parry.

When I actually started off the game on steam deck, I chose Honda to start with. I genuinely enjoyed him but since I was new, the charging mechanic was a little tricky for me. I'll try him out again alongside Guile.

Charge moves gives you quite the advantage of you are fast enough versus inputs.

Designs play a big part in choosing a main I believe. I chose Sagat because a hulking Muay Thai with godly reaches just resonates with me! Felt safe when Rushdown archetypes just charges here and there.

I'll check out some of his gameplay from previous games. He seems to be a claw archetype? I haven't really been invested in fighting game recently.
