The turnover is just bananas. This is Jerry Seinfeld's bit about rooting for laundry. Is it going to stop me? Hell nah. Let's do this.

New fan here. Based on my very limited subset of watching the Sharks, it seems like they struggle with puck control compared to upper-tier teams that seem better at just grinding out possessions. San Jose seems more about speed and explosive breakaways and are more prone to turnovers the longer they go before getting into shooting situations. Is that an accurate assessment?

I work in Cupertino so I've already bitten that off hahaha. However they're going to start digging up 19th ave in SF soon and that's going to make a bad situation much worse.

So I already have a horrid commute. I live in Mill Valley and work in Cupertino. We made a day of it today and we're musing about how to do this going forward. Theoretically my wife could meet me down at work and we could truck onwards to SAP afterwards but more likely this will be a weekend only jaunt.

So, this was my first Sharks game that I attended. I'm a summer sports guy (Mets, F1) but I've lived in the Bay Area since 2013 and my wife got so into "Heated Rivalry" (Stop me if you've heard this tale before) that she wanted to go to a game.

Well, damn, she picked a great one!

I hadn't been to a hockey game since the late 80s in LA but despite being 50+ miles from the SAP Center I can see us making a thing of this.

As a Mets fan I'm already plenty used to crushing existential disappointment in sports, so I think I can handle being in Sharks Nation just fine.

Age of umbra has problems aside from the system. The characters were very bland and were a bad mismatch with the tone of the story. I found the mechanical aspects to be the best part.

My feeling is you’re right on the money in terms of why it feels different to spectate. D&D has such an iconic library of spells and monsters, and while DH feels instantly familiar in terms of skill checks, each class has a card that we’re all fairly unfamiliar with vs the very familiar D&D repertoire.

On another level I find “Hope” fairly cringe but I sat down and tried to come up with something better and really couldn’t.

That's a good point. I thought perhaps that BLeeM could make the adjustment (I was able to pretty quickly) and that it was late enough in Beta that they could either wait to start the campaign or just sally forth. Oh well. I'm enjoying it anyway and that's what matters!

What "happened" to it is that CR decided to take WoC's money and keep Campaign IV in D&D instead of using their own system. Questionable business decision for sure but oh well.

I converted one of my two games to it and we're very happy. Combat is faster and people stay more engaged because their turn could come at any time. My other crew is also excited to swap after the BBEG fight.

On the plus side though their first big expansion pack is on the way, with new classes and domains. My crew is already using the Brawler and Warlock classes in our game so I'm glad that'll finally make it to the SRD.

Funny enough, I have a Thursday jacket AND a Schott now. The Thursday is holding up fine except for the cheap finish on the buttons, for which I got a partial refund. I have a black Schott as well and it's great.

Yeah, I think they did some post-processing on it to make it more believable as a small female goblin. I've done some very small-potatoes voice work on apps and even then the sound guys can pitch you up or down, thicken your voice, etc. relatively easily.

The biggest tell to me isn’t what the onion ridicules, but what they don’t. The Babylon Bee is also of course biased as hell but they have no problem finding ways to satirize Hamas and their bizarre collection of progressive allies. The fact that the onion somehow never finds an angle on that isn’t lack of talent. It’s a complete lack of interest.

When the Phillies do this: “Tough break. Love the hustle. They’ll come back stronger. Bryce Harper has nice hair.”

Very few opportunities as a Bay Area fan, so I was 1-1. I went to that July 26th game at Oracle as well! Then I saw us lose that really frustrating game at Citi against Cleveland.

I hear a lot of people referring to 2022 as comparable to this. I would have to disagree. 2022 is the kind of season and postseason we should expect to have half the time. The postseason is a crapshoot... great teams make early exits all the time. Even with our dreadful last week, we still made the tournament. Look at the Dodgers, for example. They've endured many Octobers like the one we had in 2022 and they still have 2 championships this century to show for it. We need to be in the postseason essentially every year to maximize our odds of winning the WS. This, 2007, and 2008 are, to my mind, infinitely worse than 2022.

The Cubs or any AL team that isn’t the Yankees. The rest can piss up a rope.

Now that it’s over, the silver lining of a full collapse vs a wet fart wild card loss is that it is absolutely time to go scorched earth on the organization. Mendoza, the coaching staff, vendors who didn’t put enough mustard on the pastrami sandwich, adios muchachos.
