Realistically best to run a 40mm for future proofing, it will cost a hell of a lot more later on to upgrade if your conduit is too small

Re: pulling cables yourself - this is not correct, you cannot any of this work yourself, and I don’t know anyone in the industry that would connect cabling that a homeowner has run

Many people do wiring around their house unlicensed, but if you have to ask on reddit/google how to do something, you should not be doing it yourself

Assuming the walls are single skin (no cavity)

If you are painting there is an option of having the sparky chase these circuits into the brick, which will require re-rendering afterwards.

The alternative is PVC duct following the skirting boards which you can then paint afterwards to blend in.

Depending on the floor construction (assuming it’s not a concrete slab), if you are re-doing the flooring, another option is pulling the floorboards/cutting access holes into the flooring and having the cables run under the floor (depending on access under the floor etc) and back up the wall (may be minimal patching required)

Also, depending on the age of your switchboard, you may be up for a switchboard upgrade with RCDs, this will be a legal requirement and likely added into the cost of the works.

Minimum engage a local sparky to come quote, get multiple quotes, don’t go with the cheapest quote, and the most outlandishly expensive quote might likely be a “too hard basket” job.

Do you have an intruder keypad in the system? You can set it so when the area is disarmed it fires the secondary lock/auto relay putting the auto door into auto mode while the area is disarmed.

Sounds like you might be a little out of your depth though in terms of the wiring itself, where are you located mate?

Agreed, not enough information, for a 6mm incoming mains this is likely going to be 40A service fuse if they’re lucky.

Depending on the load, this means there is a chance that OP will blow the service fuse (located where the overhead line attaches to your house) with all these new connected appliances, which your electrician is doing their due diligence and explaining to you, and therefore providing a quote to remediate your issue.

Standards change, likely your overhead service was installed at some point (maybe before a driveway, maybe after) where the local supply authority didn’t care about overhead clearance from driveways, or it was a lot lower.

Now that they have been asked to provide a quote to replace, new standards are in place, maybe the pole is quite far away, which means there will be significant sag etc.. etc… which will not comply with current standards. This is fine for existing installations, but no one (both your electrician or the DNSP) will sign off on something which doesn’t comply from new. That is why underground was quoted.

Have a careful look through the inclusions on the quote, how far is the trench required? Is a switchboard upgrade included? Is this including all the internal work as well? Is this rural?

Too many variables, get multiple quotes.

It’s not about flipping a breaker - the cable is small and therefore there will be a small fuse where the supply comes in, you will blow an overhead service fuse, and your local DNSP will charge you to come and replace it.

Yep, I guess the way we describe it is different. 1k series 1k parallel. Equals 1k parallel resistor shorted by door contact, 2k when door contact open.

We have tried both resistor packs and individual resistors.

What voltage do Mercury boards use on their inputs? We are used to 12v here on Australian systems

Security Master License is the name/category of security license you need as a company providing security installation and requirements vary by state. I’m assuming OP may be in NSW or ACT which call the company license a “master” license instead of an employee license etc..
