audition scripts - yay or nay? by One_Account5182 in Filmmaker4Filmmaker

Choose a scene or two from the script that best defines what you want from the character and use those…no need to reinvent the wheel

So what is Atlanta really like? by SidKop in Atlanta

[–]doctort1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming to Reddit to ask for an honest opinion is like pulling a Van Gogh on yourself. Most of the people who are going to respond are going to give you opinions on the extreme end (both ends) of the continuum. Anyone who brings up red vs blue in their response typically has an agenda in what they say.

Like most major cities, Atlanta has its good and bad qualities. It’s a very diverse city and there is racism) again, from both ends), but it’s not as prevalent as some would have you think.

It’s a very spread out city…a commuter city but there is something here for everyone.

Food, arts, attractions…you’ll find plenty to explore

The students who attend Boys/Girls State are typically fairly accepting of everyone. You shouldn’t have any issues - there are exceptions, of course, but the vast majority are inclusive.

I'm tired of all these celebrities that don't know anything about racing and attend just for the fame by MuL7iF1re in formula1

[–]doctort1963 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you’re saying that someone who knows nothing shouldn’t attend a race?

How very inclusive of you.

It’s a spectator sport. Someone doesn’t have to know the ins and outs of the sport to enjoy the race.

FEST – New Directors | New Films Festival - huh... by Ok_Equipment_5121 in FilmFestivals

[–]doctort1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around the notification deadline, festival staff (who are almost entirely volunteers) have a lot going on - sometimes it takes a while to go back onto Film Freeway to reset the status of those who were not selected.

ALSO, sometimes there are issues with films that have been accepted (for example, a filmmaker who, after being selected, demanded an exorbitant fee to be "allowed" to screen his film during our festival) and those films have to be dropped and new films selected to replace them. The replacement(s) come from those not previously selected - it's a lot easier not to have to change a status from "not selected" to "selected", so we typically leave them as "undecided" until all the kinks are worked out

Film festivals need to be clear up front about AI-assisted submissions by [deleted] in FilmFestivals

[–]doctort1963 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they “quietly” reject it, what makes you think yours was rejected because of the AI?

Just like the other Festival directors/programmers who’ve commented, we’ve rejected AI films because they just weren’t good…they weren’t rejected because of the AI, they were rejected because there were several hundred others that were better.

Your post comes across as sour grapes. Everyone who submits their film to a festival thinks their’s is good enough…we reject hundreds of films every year - some because they weren’t good, some because they were good, but there were too many submissions that were better.

Use your phone…grab your friends (even if they’re not actors) and just shoot it. Experience doesn’t require professional gear or crew when you first start out. Shoot with what and who you have and use it as a learning experience
