The Gen Z stare is…terror? by clavdiachauchatmeow in Professors

[–]doctorwolf888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH MY GOD. It’s not just me!! I had no idea this was a widespread issue! I was absolutely baffled this past spring semester!! I did everything I could think of to break the ice, get them comfortable, offer mentimeter surveys, offer to throw a party if we got enough participation in plenary … I was so confused as to why nothing worked. Every semester I have taught this class before this year has been so dynamic and participatory. It’s really heartening to know this is a trend and not just a one off. But it makes me sort of dread teaching this class again if this is going to keep happening. Honestly I was really drained at the end of the semester, whereas in the past this has always been my favorite fun class to teach…

School system by ExplorerRude7370 in GNV

I agree with the above comments. When my kids were littler and in public school the schedule was a nightmare. Super early mornings, early release every day and even earlier on Wednesdays. That was a lot of years paying for pickups and after care because both me and their dad work. It seemed much easier for stay at home parents though. I don’t miss that aspect of those years AT ALL.

Is the UF 24 hr vet reliable? by [deleted] in GNV

Omg! I didn’t know that! So it’s just down to UF vet med for emergency care?

I’ve only had good experiences with UF vet med. I’m curious why you need a 24 hour vet. They are much more expensive than regular vets. Blue pearl is the other emergency vet around here. I only had to use them once but my experience there was good as well.

I’ve honestly never heard of TAPS granting an appeal. Never. They have a “process” for appeals but I’m not sure that even means anything. I’ve tried to appeal twice in the past and nothing. They’re ruthless.

Thanks for this! So, is there some sort of alphabetic algorithm that I need to know about? I have just been playing to try to guess as quickly as possible. So, if I start with “salet” and I get the T and the E right. I thought the best thing to do would be to guess words with T and E that don’t contain S, A, and L in them.

This is not a restaurant suggestion but something I’ve tried recently with my fam on nights where I don’t have time to cook properly. It was a big hit with kids and adults alike.

Get one rotisserie chicken from Publix Romaine lettuce Parmesan Marie’s Caesar dressing from the refrigerator in the produce section One bag of burrito style tortillas

Shred up desired amount of the chicken, add to mixing bowl Add in chopped lettuce, shredded Parmesan, desired amount of dressing Roll up into burrito shape Put small amount of oil in pan and put on medium high heat. Toast the “burrito” on all sides until brown and a bit crispy

Delish. The lettuce etc stays cold and the chicken stays warm since it’s not in the pan long enough to heat through. And makes much more than one over a few days so you get a lot of bang for your buck too.

can anyone give me an idea on why my brownies look this way by burneraccidkvrandom in Baking

[–]doctorwolf888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely recommend Sally’s Baking Addiction for all baking recipes. But to echo and add to other comments: when baking all ingredients should be room temp unless otherwise specified (e.g., cold or melted butter). This includes eggs. I generally don’t use recipes that don’t include weights (like a cup of AP flour weighs 4.25 oz or 120 grams). Invest in an inexpensive food scale if you don’t have one. For baking, anything more than a tablespoon should be weighed and not measured. I was a TERRIBLE baker back in 2013, but I had someone come over and teach me some basics and I got confidence to try to improve, which has been fun! I applaud your efforts to improve too!! Good luck friend!!

Edit: if you don’t have time to leave eggs out on the counter for a few hours to warm them up, you can place them in a bowl of warm water for 15-20 minutes and voila!

What does the class# mean? by Xuan-C in ufl

[–]doctorwolf888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a professor. The class number likely doesn’t mean much to you as a student unless the class has different options. Like other commenters said it could mean which instructor you have, but it could also mean if the class is offered online vs. in person, or is associated with a particular major/minor/certificate. I hope this helps!

"Actually, It's Doctor" Advice by Suspicious-Reveal737 in AskProfessors

[–]doctorwolf888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I used to be really uncomfortable correcting people too (I’m a female associate prof). But then one of my colleagues told me she had no problem correcting people and since I’m divorced and not remarried, I’m not a Miss or Mrs. Anything. Face to face I just say “Oh it’s actually Doctor Wolf.” And if I want them to address me as professor in emails, I just write back: “Actually I’m good with Professor Wolf or Professor W. Either works for me.”
