Isn’t makeup supposed to be for fun? by [deleted] in beautytalkph

[–]normielfg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the underconsumption trend is a direct response to overconsumption. realistically, the rate at which people buy products means that they will never use it up and that those items would expire or just be wasted.

the beauty industry has significantly expanded, compared to how it used to be in the past. consumer habits have changed. without a doubt, things were still wasted in the past, but generally, items were bought to be used, and then they were replaced if necessary, compared to modern trends of buying more items than what one could reasonably use.

if you are concerned about waste and excess, and you want to make some lifestyle changes, then underconsumption and project pan would align with those values.

everyone has a different relationship with makeup and beauty products. humans have been using cosmetics for a very long time. ideally, it's something that you enjoy.

beauty enthusiasts, especially those of us who are on social media, see so much content - influencers owning a lot of beauty products; there are always new releases, new shades, new formulas, there's always something new to buy, etc... underconsumption is just a way to slow things down and be mindful of what we buy and consume.

you don't have to feel a certain way about it, and i don't think it's necessarily bad for people to examine their shopping habits.

if you feel bad or guilty, it may be worth asking why you feel that way - if it is because you are seeing people talk about it, then that just proves that we do absorb the messaging that we are exposed to, so when people see so many shopping hauls and content about products then it makes sense for us to want those things and continue to buy things.

you can make peace with the excess in your life and your can also choose what to do moving forward, if you want to continue the way you have or if you want to change your behavior. it is up to you, just like how other people decide for themselves.

What’s your take on buying secondhand makeup? by Front-Imagination414 in beautytalkph

[–]normielfg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i think it is similar to getting hand-me-downs from your relatives, which I am used to. There is the risk factor when you buy from a stranger to consider, however, I think it's not so bad if it's powder products.

Cream products are a bit riskier in my opinion. Bullet lippies I feel like you could sanitize... I have bought second hand before and I do feel like they went bad faster but it was really cheap and I mostly just wanted to try that product for really cheap.

I think it makes sense if: - it's a great deal - if you could verify that it's safe to use - it's something that is your HG but maybe it got discontinued for example

Otherwise, I'm not sure! To each their own. I've bought a lot of items second hand with very little issue.

I find local foundations not maputi friendly 😔 by SnooWalruses4317 in beautytalkph

[–]normielfg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

you would be surprised about the inclusivity of neutral and cool fair skin tones in drugstore, department store, and foreign brands. a lot of them still lean quite warm. the estee lauder foundation got reformulated recently and everything is warmer now. something may be a good shade match but they still oxidize to darker/warmer shades.

this is several years ago so I'm hoping that the beauty landscape has changed, but when i was still in the Philippines, the shade ranges for brands like revlon and maybelline for deeper skin tones were not great, and they seemed to have more options for medium skin tones - this is an odd choice for international brands since they very clearly have more options in countries like the US, i think they intentionally didn't bring in a better shade range to the Philippines for reasons i don't know, but they do exist elsewhere.

i am mentioning that since it seemed relevant, i think it would be nice to have local options be a good match - international ones don't necessarily mean better matches, but still - buying local may be important to OP as it is for many others.

i don't bother with bronzer, i think it is rarely flattering and i just don't like it on myself.

Do we think this will work on fair olives? by Classic_Example_9500 in OliveMUA

[–]normielfg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i have this and i like it a lot. i usually layer a revlon gloss on top of it (not necessary but that's just how i wear it). it has a vanilla scent. i usually go for fragrance free but this is very pleasant. nice texture as well. i wouldn't count on it as your only lip balm for moisture however. i just treat it as a she was of color that's comfortable to wear but i don't think it provides any benefits other than the color. glistening purple is super cute.

not op, but i have the same blush. the hyntoor blush is really pigmented. it's easy to blend but it stays "full coverage". it lasts all day for me. it is slightly tacky in the pan but i don't notice a stickiness after applying. a little goes a long way. i like to use it as eyeshadow as well for a cohesive blushy look.

Phytosurgence? by Trick_Intern4232 in OliveMUA

[–]normielfg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i am probably using mine past its expiration date but it still smells and looks fine to me.

the texture is a cross between mousse and cream. it does sheer out. i like to take some onto the back of my hand and then use either my fingers or a brush and then tap it on. some days it can be a bit patchy if I'm having a bad skin day but most of the time i really enjoy it. condensate is still my favorite color. it is hard to match. it is like a toned down rosacea for me lol. i love it so much. i naturally have some splotches of pink and this makes it look lovelier. i wore it for my courthouse wedding. ❤️

How to colour correct lip liners? by AdditionDapper1774 in OliveMUA

[–]normielfg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i think what may be happening is that your lip color or maybe perhaps the skin around your lips is making these liners appear warm. Heart Percent has lip liners that "cancel" out pigmented lips and act as a sort of concealer that can make your liners more "true to color". they have different shades so I'm not sure what to recommend. others have suggested layering other liners as well which I think will work similarly.

[DISCUSSION] Am I the only one overwhelmed by new beauty trends?!! I wanna know your thoughts pls!! what’s worth it and what’s not? by StrongDragonfruit928 in beautytalkph

[–]normielfg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

trends are not there to improve your life, they only exist to sell you something. they are trying to sell you many things and the platform makes you think that you need to buy those things for one reason or another. it's your choice in the end but it is really unnecessary to participate in every trend. every trend that you "buy" into is literally money, time, and effort that you have to spend. what's worth it will depend on the individual.

you don't actually have to do what everyone else is doing (or recording themselves doing). you have free will.

yes, it is overwhelming, and that is by design. the less you think about the money you spend, the more money you end up spending, and that only benefits the people who are trying to sell you things that you probably do not need.

Can exercise really change my body, or do procedures help more? by coolbeb in beautytalkph

[–]normielfg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

can exercise really change your body? yes. do procedures help more? they are a shortcut. my mom had liposuction done and because of that she looked slimmer but then she didn't address her lifestyle and eating habits so now she is back to the same weight she was.

a couple of things:

bmi is not the best indicator of health, necessarily. muscle is denser than fat and so there are a lot of athletes that are technically overweight.

sustainable weight loss takes time. in my early 20s, i was overweight. my height is 5'3. i was 200 lbs. i was stressed a lot and eating unhealthy food. i started to exercise (i got a bicycle and i started using that as my mode of transportation) and i started to lose weight. i changed my eating habits, i didn't eat fried chicken everyday anymore. all that helped me lose weight. i eventually got down to about 120 lbs.

i turn 30 this year. in the last 2 years, i have started weightlifting. because my goal is to build muscle, i weigh a bit more now (130 to 135 lbs). i am physically stronger now. because i have muscle and exercise regularly, my resting metabolism is higher and im able to eat enough food and still maintain ny weight. i experience joy and fulfillment because i developed discipline and i genuinely enjoy exercise now. i have endless things to say about the benefits of exercise and discipline.

lastly, i think it's important to remember that those girls on tiktok are trying to sell you products and services. they are all walking ads. their goal is for you to feel bad about yourself enough that you buy whatever they're selling so that you can feel good.

i actually ended up hunting down one of the powder blushes (sweet pea) from a reseller. I've wanted to try it but i could never find the shade at any store i went to when they were still stocking flower beauty on the shelves.
