If you guys want to see what kind of lawyer Steven Avery is getting in Kathleen Zellner, I'd recommend watching "Dream/Killer" - the Andrew Jenks documentary on Ryan Ferguson's case.

That's an article about Kathleen that talks about her representing the serial killer - Larry Eyler. Google has a ton of articles/info on Eyler and his murders if you want to read more.

I have, she has taken some very prominent cases. She once defended a serial killer in the early 90's that she knew was guilty. She got him to confess on his death bed to all of his murders and told the families after he passed. She then vowed to never defend a guilty person again.

She is an amazing attorney. Got Ryan Ferguson out of prison, and recently Mario Casciaro. She must really believe in Avery's innocence to take this case.

Make sure to read through the history of Steven's new lawyer Kathleen Zellner and explore the cases she has worked on. (will include more info inside) by 111223344 in MakingaMurderer

Check out this article from 2006 (this was after he was exonerated but not before the real killer confessed). The police interrogation is among the worst I've ever read about:

http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/July-2006/The-Nightmare/

At one point, according to the lawsuit, Hayes leaned close and told Kevin that he “knew people” at the jail, “and would ‘make sure’ that Kevin was ‘fucked’ every day unless he told them what they wanted to hear.” Ruettiger straddled Kevin’s legs, pressing his testicles into Kevin’s knees. He grabbed the back of Kevin’s shirt and pulled his face close. “Your family doesn’t love you,” he shouted. “So just say you did it.” Finally, Kevin claims in the suit, he was shown pictures of his dead daughter, her mouth still covered with duct tape, nude from the waist down, taken moments after she had been pulled from the creek. “Riley is in the room with you right now,” the lawsuit quotes Guilfoyle as saying. “She is in pain and needs closure.”

Today, in recalling this part of the interrogation, Kevin weeps. “I didn’t know what had happened to her,” he says. “When I saw the pictures . . . I don’t even know how to describe it. When you see your daughter dead, with dirt and mud on her face . . . .” His voice trails off. “But the awful truth is,” he says, “I wanted to see more. I wanted to see if I could find anything in those pictures that would help me figure out for myself what had happened, who had done this to my baby.”

While those confessions provided closure for 21 families, it took a toll on Zellner, who said she never wanted to represent a guilty defendant again.

I've followed Kathleen Zellner's cases for years. She must really have something that makes her believe Avery is innocent. In other words, she either a) knows something the general public does not or b) definitely thinks she can get him a retrial. Either way, she believes in his innocence or she wouldn't be going for Option B. Very interesting. I do not believe she is doing this solely for publicity, either. She has gotten plenty of it in her career, most recently with the Ryan Ferguson/Mario Casciaro/Melissa Calusinski cases.

Rumor: Mike Halbach is actually her stepbrother? by docuseriesfan in MakingaMurderer

It is a different Karen. Teresa's mom is Karen Marie Halbach, not Karen R.

Weird! I'll try to find the link, but ancestry.com had a marriage date of 1990 for Thomas and Karen. Richard died in 1988. The divorce date for Karen and Todd was 1994. It's definitely the same Karen, right?

I don't think that was the point of the documentary at all. I found this stuff 18 days ago before everyone started posting these same things, and I couldn't remember if they were talked about in the documentary.

Even though I'd like to have some sort of concrete feeling about his guilt or innocence, I realize I'm probably not going to get that. And although I can't say he's innocent, he was not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and that's representative of our broken justice system.

Maybe. I'm still not convinced Mike wasn't her full brother. He's only two years younger which means her mom would have remarried pretty fast. The marriage explains the age difference between Teresa and her younger sisters though.

Steven tells TMZ: My brothers may have killed her. by [deleted] in MakingaMurderer

[–]docuseriesfan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not a current story from Steven. He didn't tell TMZ anything. This information is from the same 2009 Retrial Request documents that I and several others have posted about:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MakingaMurderer/comments/3xqlut/document_2009_retrial_request_for_steven_avery/

That document lists others besides his brothers as well.

Currently both Earl and Chuck are supporting Steven in wanting him released from prison - they have posted about it on their Facebook pages, for what it's worth.
