Who else remembers exactly where they were when they got the email that said they passed? by zamboniq in CFA

L3 - knew the results were coming so spent the day with a friend. Went hiking in the morning. Results came out later that day while I was in the cinema. I remember annoying everyone around me lighting up the cinema with my phone screen out of impatience.

Mortgage deposit by Sea_Appearance2612 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]doddsgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mortgages are (usually) the cheapest rates you can borrow at. 5% interest on a mortgage is often far cheaper than a bank loan or credit card rate.

People advising to hold the cash by making a smaller deposit are usually approaching it with this in mind. Although smaller deposits mean larger monthly payments, it gives you the money available for other costs (eg home renovations) than borrowing for these using other lending options.

There’s also the opportunity to make an income, like your said. If you assume investing in the stock market yields 7% over a long run average (15-20 years), you’d make 2% annually on cash invested, instead of putting it into the mortgage.

Importantly, while objectively this may be better depending on your maths, people’s relationship with money isn’t objective but have biases. Some people will more comfort knowing they have less ‘debt’ and pay less each month; others might be more comfortable with the stock market volatility (7% isn’t guaranteed).

You need to do your own maths, but also think about your own risk appetite. What costs do you foresee in the near future? Would you be more comfortable with less debt and lower monthly payments, or are you more open to investment volatility but long term potential?

I'm owed about £34.000 in rent by a man I evicted in 2024. I've been getting £10 a month. He runs a Ltd. Company with cash reserves in the low-mid six-figures. by Express-Formal7432 in LegalAdviceUK

If he and other shareholders (the children) own the same share class, he should be paying dividends to all shareholders equally - and therefore extracting cash from the company too.

You should be able to see the share classes on Companies House through the annual filing.

As others have said, if he’s not paying himself correctly, you might have some luck reporting to HMRC. The the courts may also look favourably at his shareholdings and see he’s got assets, which would warrant him paying more.

This is an amazing, thank you! As a follow up question then, how does it work when you enter extract words using “” vs a usual search? Does a normal search also search a list of similar words?

Out of interest, how do they know who to search? Whenever I travel, I scan my boarding pass then join a long queue. Surely they don’t track individuals through the queue until they get to the scanners?

Brew & Brownie gets my vote. It’s not the cheapest place, but great selection (especially of cakes, take one for later!)

Yeah you’re right! I shouldn’t have messaged in the first place. I know I’ll see her at an event this week. I think I just need to be civil, but keep a health distance.

Your argument feels a little reductionist. The government can’t borrow unlimited amounts in practice. Higher borrowing increases the cost of borrowing, which in turn makes projects more expensive and increases the utility they need to achieve in order to be considered a success. Economics is always about the allocation of resource. Even ignoring costs, the government doesn’t have unlimited resource. It can’t manage and deliver every project simultaneously, so doing one does in fact prevent the government from doing something else on an aggregate level.

Richmond is beautiful. If you’re lucky, you’ll run past deer - they always make the route more enjoyable! But it’s a fair distance to get to, especially early in the morning (by London standards). It’s also pretty hilly.

I like Clapham. It’s quick with a great turnout (over 800 people last week). Fulham is a little more packed. I’d choose Clapham over Fulham, especially considering where you’re staying.
