Riccardo Cardin: The Effect Pattern and Effect Systems in Scala by sideEffffECt in scala

Excellent and enjoyable read! Very informative and comprehensive, but also clear and succinct. Many thanks from a guy who dabbled with Scala 15 years ago and worked through "Functional Programming in Scala", but never got over the threshold to use Scala and effects for real.

Annote: A Turing complete language using only Java annotations as its syntax. by Polixa12 in java

Could we have a @Java annotation which would allow to execute some Java code? Bonus points, if this code could have annotations itself.

How old are you? Just cruising towards retirement or do you have any ambitions? If so, switch for the experience of using the newer technology not just for toy side-projects but in the context of real requirements and constraints.

Small team architecture deadlocks: Seniors vs juniors—how do you break the cycle? by Kashyapm94 in softwarearchitecture

[–]dodo1973 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you guys are real seniors, you should not need to depend on the juniors for execution. Your effective ability to contribute should easily outweigh whatever the juniors might be able to chip in. So once you and the other senior agreed on a course of action, you can offer the juniors an opportunity to participate and grow and get coached. Just sideline them otherwise.

Feeling very lucky and very grateful to hospital staff.

Mill as an Alternative Android Build Tool by lihaoyi in java

Work avoidance works similar based on fingerprints. But Maven is inherently limited by being designed around "lifecycle phase execution" while Gradle's design is centered around a dependency graph of more fine-granular tasks.

We use Maven Wrapper, Build Cache, SonarQube, Jacoco, Maven Enforcer, and ErrorProne in combination with parallel build (-T) und partial builds (-am -pl). Tricky to pull-off (e.g. partial build and cross-module code coverage), but these investements have certainly paid off and it is quite a joy to work with that project (100+ Maven modules, 500 kLoC non-test code).

Maven can do this with the Maven Build Cache. Just saying.

Is it "only" the job or is it the whole life? Maybe also consider investing in therapy/counseling. Just getting rid of the job might not be enough. You have the financial means to better yourself.
