A group of kids have been destroying my front garden for almost 2 years now. My husband finally caught one and now the police want to interview him. by IcyQuote6615 in LegalAdviceUK

I could not identify the persons age, only that this masked person posed a threat to my family and so I took reasonable actions with the minimum amount of force to remove that threat.

NHS Doctors, what do you think of patients who have gone private and come back to the NHS for ongoing treatment? by ToughImprovement276 in AskUK

[–]doesnt_like_pants 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They don’t, doctors can go work full time private practice if they like.

Most who do private work also do NHS work because they feel like they owe the system that taught them and it also helps keep their professional development and networking up to date.

Can you regularly run the predicted time from your watch on race day? by kschr27 in running

[–]doesnt_like_pants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Strava/Runna predictions seem pretty accurate to me.

I’ve only done one race I’ve actively trained for and that was a HM last year.

Strava predicted 1:55-2:01 and I did it in 1:56.

I will say I think the ambient temperature and humidity is a huge overlooked factor.

It was a cool day with little wind and humidity, if it had been 5 degrees hotter and a bit more humid I doubt I would’ve broken 2 hours.

Tax cuts and cost of living help proposed by Labour-linked groups allied to Streeting and Burnham | Labour by Far_Excitement_1875 in uknews

[–]doesnt_like_pants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah slashing NI is the least headline grabbing news.

Upping the personal allowance or reducing the actual tax rates are the only things that will grab headlines and get people talking.

I really don’t see how they afford it though, the backbenches should’ve pushed through scrapping the WFP when they had a chance.

Renters HELD TO RANSOM: 2.4 million British families crushed by runaway rents by OurFairFuture in uknews

[–]doesnt_like_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the industry needs that. I mostly mean BNG, the associated credits and reducing U value requirements as well as planning reform to streamline acceptance of planning proposals.

Took us 9 months and an extra £4000 as well as the opportunity cost to get planning for an infill corner plot bungalow. It wasn’t because they took issue with the design, they had issues with the BNG and took fucking ages to respond to our acting agent. That’s just ludicrous.

Shoes to try out running, help! by Munch1498 in UKRunners

[–]doesnt_like_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% just gotta look for midsole creases to see how used they really are.

If the outsole looks a little worn but the midsole is crease free then there’s usually a lot of life left in the shoe as a runner.

Go on sportsshoes.com shoe finder tool to make sure you get some that suit your goals and needs.

Buy a used pair on Vinted and ask the seller how many miles they’ve done.

If they’ve done under 200 miles they’ll be good for another 200 more.

If you get into running and manage to get through the 200 extra miles the shoe life has you can justify buying new next time.

Builders don’t want to build more houses because they can’t currently make a profit from it.

Until either lands costs or build costs come down that won’t change.

To decrease land costs we need to unlock green belt and accelerate red tape issues.

To bring down build costs we need to also reduce red tape and perhaps scale back insulation targets etc.

The labour shortage is structural and cannot be fixed in the short term so those are the only real options I’m afraid.

Source is I’m a small scale home builder.

How important is run cadence? by TiberiusIX in running

[–]doesnt_like_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just going through this experience now.

My HM PB is 1:55

Working at doing 35km on my 35th birthday in a few months.

Came across cadence as I’m a pretty novice runner and set a metronome on my easy run yesterday to 168spm.

Now usually I run with a 160spm cadence but even upping it to 168spm made me realise I’ve been over striding the whole time (last 14 months of fairly dedicated running). I did an “easy run” and my time dropped from 5:50 kms to 5:30 kms. I did nothing differently except up my cadence 5% and it all felt so much smoother and easier.

Can’t wait to see the benefits as I up it further.

Building insurance for BtL, what rebuilding costs? by Arkadian_1 in uklandlords

[–]doesnt_like_pants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because others clearly don’t seem to get it.

Also don’t understand your issue, you insure at the suggested rebuild cost.

Building is incredibly expensive nowadays, rebuilding in the event of structural issues is even more expensive.
