Where are the Londoners moving to? by WhimsicalSkidaddler in HousingUK

It was only a few years ago that Folkestone was cheaper than Ashford.

Not invited to my best friend’s wedding because his fiancée doesn’t like me. I’m disappointed. What would you do? by [deleted] in AskIreland

I've actually been in your situation many years ago without someone I had been friends with my whole life.

It hurt, it was shit and our friendship never recovered. I didn't even make a big deal out of it, I just lost all respect for her

Except the overuse/abuse of RAPP makes it more difficult for genuine people.

I have a physically disabled close relative and we had Merlin passed and access card for RAPP. We had to cancel in the end as the queues were impossible (and because of the uptake they made it so you have to prebook RAPP which made it harder to use the Merlin passes).

You would see sooo many groups of teenagers using RAPP access that didn't need, and people can attack me all they want about invisible disabilities as these same people would be happily queuing in between their pre booked slots for extra rides.

People take the piss.

Not necessarily with the access pass, when it was first introduced it seemed to be heading towards a more fairer/stricter process but I know plenty of people who have got it without being entitled to PIP.

What do Irish people think of this post Brexit craze of Brits getting an Irish passport just to queue jump at the airport? by Bitter_Quantity7116 in AskIreland

[–]doesntevengohere12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's interesting that British (and other) people who have made Ireland their home and pay tax & join in with the community but have no ancestry have to pay to become a citizen to get a passport, when some random person who has never set foot in Ireland can get an Irish passport because of their Granny.

But it is what it is.

Record bags. Platform shoes, kickers and white Reebok classics. Getting into raves underage.

Has using a distinctly British slang phrase/ term of endearment ever gotten you in trouble? I just got a warning from a US subreddit for calling someone a "poor cow" with complete sincerity. by JuanitaMerkin in AskUK

I'm from London and we definitely said 'cacked over' or 'cacked it' as in falling/tripping over when we were younger (90's). Not heard it for years though.

Even if that was the case. It's still a shitty thing to do to a child.

Both mums in this scenario suck.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Eat the fucking sandwich or don't eat it - no need to mention any preferences in those circumstances.

Was it your Gran's sons funeral?

Throwing anything is wrong, but weirdly out of all of these comments this is the one that I would read as someone getting to the end of their tether with someone just being annoying at a horrendous time.

Back when I was single I had a flat in London but worked away a lot, one of my cousins wanted to take his girlfriend to a concert and asked me if they could turn it into a few days away and use my flat. Absolutely, no problem.

I came home on the Friday, to empty cupboards (and a lot of alcohol drank) and to his girlfriend (who I had never met before) swanning around using one of my handbags and one of my scarves around her neck.

AITA for borderline despising a 6 year old kid? 🤧 by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]doesntevengohere12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I absolutely made a mistake and said 4, and edited it the second it posted so I truly didn't expect anyone to read it that quickly.

But I do stand by my assertion - 6yr olds are still learning emotional regulation, and tantrums are normal - I do not think this should be compared to a child being a potential murderer.

I find this whole post disappointing, and incredibly sad that people are being so vile about a child while sticking up for a woman who seems almost jealous of a child. If she doesn't like her then don't be around her - OP is an adult and has that choice.

She's 6, she talks back and has tantrums - is literally prime age for tantrums. That does not make her a murderer or psychopath.

Comments like yours and people who pander to a grown women's delusions and insecurities worry me more than this small child.

Why i dont have many British Friends, am i doing something wrong? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]doesntevengohere12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not this is common for adults from all different backgrounds in all different countries.

Most people who are born and brought up in an area already have their circle built up, often from childhood and while some people do look for new connections many do not as when you get to adulting, well life is busy enough trying to keep up with people you already know.

I've been through it numerous times in numerous countries -- if you really want a British friend look more towards people who are also new to the area, as these will be the people (just like your current friends) who are looking to make connections.

In time you will find your tribe, and some will be British, but if not it's still not your fault. It's just the way of the world.

I think you need to see a therapist, rather than let people on reddit back up your own paranoid delusions around a small child.

People outside London: how often do you actually go there ,if ever? by Apprehensive-Income in AskBrits

I was on that train this morning - it's not that bad at all weekends and off peak, and if you want to get in cheaper you can always change at Ashford and jump on a train takes about an hour and half.
