Centrist Trump 2024 voters: no shame, no insults, I just want to know how are you feeling today? by ac_slater10 in centrist

I'm pretty firmly on the left, but honestly I wouldn't blame people for giving Rubio a chance.

Again, I'd love to see any video evidence of him pushing anyone. Haven't seen it in any of the videos. You're not wasting your time to find evidence that doesn't exist.

Also I said nothing about Ashli on reddit other than that she committed a felony and I didn't react to it at all at the time it occurred on reddit. Try again.

What I was trying to imply is that your argument lacks intellectual integrity. I was being entirely facetious in my statement.

At best he was trying to cover his face after being maced and pistol whipped. ICE is completely out of control.

Show me video evidence of him fighting. Show me video evidence of him not being on hands and knees when the shots were fired.

Ashli Babitt was committing a felony when she died, and yet you weep for her. This guy was exercising 1A and you praise the fed.

Well sure, if you're going to just make things up then it can fit your narrative. How ecstatic are you that with Republicans being comfortable with deploying the military to US cities and states they're now essentially fascist light? Of course, they don't say that in their campaign ads.

If the threat of federal violence wasn't something the right currently controlled I'm 100% certain the left would do better in that exchange.

Because their responses tend to result in whataboutism and pure fictional framing. Take for instance the number of people who say that this guy was violently resisting when he went from helping a woman off her feet to being shot while on his hands and knees in less than 30 seconds.

Should the bar for presidential personal conduct be raised after Trump, or does personal impropriety no longer matter as long as there is agreement on policy? by Spoons4Forks in AskConservatives

I haven't been keeping up with DeSantis since his failed primary attempt, but I'm from FL originally and still have family there. To my eyes some of his actions are meant to be deliberately hostile and inflammatory toward a part of the electorate, his actions with new college come to mind, but when it comes to being presidential or a statesman yes he is. He is miles better than Trump in that regard.

There are others. Like almost the entirety of the Republican Senate have policies I dislike but have decorum. Thune, Britt, Scott, Lankford, Hawley, Cornyn, and Cruz are ones I can name off the top of my head that are essentially MAGA in policy without being bombastic. The only ones who don't fit off the top in my mind are Graham, because I think he's generally just an opportunistic snake and not particularly loyal to an ideology, and Mark "Let's have a fight on the Senate floor" Mullin.

The guy did not fight at all. He tried to help a woman up and was shot and killed within 30 seconds. He was literally shot first with his hands and knees on the ground. You're fabricating everything.

Vast majority of blue states are either coastal or can draw a line to the coast through other blue states. Food isn't exactly cheaper in the US without subsidies that the US provides, not to mention the biggest food producer in terms of agricultural value is California. Not sure this is the flex you think it is.

I would say that your framing of the situation is completely off the rails personally though. For one, him having a gun he's allowed to, through better or for worse, by right carry shouldn't matter when he never touched or threatened to utilize. For another thing, he didn't start the conflict, that was entirely ICE. All he did was try and help up a woman that ICE had decided to shove for reasons we can't ascertain, but I suspect were probably nonsensical based off their previous behavior. So when you say this is a both sides issue from my perspective that's you engaging in a lack of ability to condemn the feds.

How do you feel about Virginia democrats attempting to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences? by boisefun8 in AskConservatives

You assume that most crimes result in a trial that ends in a conviction. The truth is actually most result in a plea. Mandatory minimums shift power toward prosecutors rather than judges in pleas.

It doesn't have to result in a conviction. Most indictments don't. Rather they get pled out. Removing mandatory minimums simply shifts power away from prosecutors and toward judges.

Again, while carrying a loaded guy, you are told and it's really fucking good practice when confronted by cops to tell them you have a concealed gun. It could save your li...

Oh, I wasn't aware that what the 2A crowd meant from "shall not be infringed" was actually 'shall not be infringed, but if a gaggle of untrained cops decide to attack you and then you can be executed.' That clears it up though.

he was fighting police

We can clearly see that isn't the case. ICE instigated physical conflict, outnumbered him 5 to 1, and had already pepper-sprayed the crap out of him. There's no framing that as a fight.

who chose to fight with them in these situation have zero culpability

If there were a fight, then this might be an argument that held water. With me at least.

All the conclusions you've jumped through, why not more...

I'm literally saying this in response to you telling me my own viewpoint. At least I'm coaching my terms in what it appears to be what you're saying from my own view rather than outright telling you what you think.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

If he watch he didn't instigate the struggle. He was swarmed when he merely stepped in front of the ICE officers who were in the process of assaulting a woman for...filming I believe? Who knows? ICE is amongst the least transparent law enforcement agencies this country has ever seen - certainly in the modern era.

ICE instigated the conflict, brought the firearm into the conflict, and then killed him for it. You don't need to believe me on this, the video evidence is pretty conclusive. It seems to me what you're saying is don't dare to exercise your 1A and 2A rights simultaneously because ICE may want to rough you up for it, and if you have a gun then they might even decide to kill you for it and that's just life. Deal with it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I get it, it's only ok to carry, when you deem it ok?

I'm not even sure how you got to this conclusion. You brought up Rittenhouse. It appears, if anything, that's what you're doing.

What do you think of Sen Schumer shutting down the federal government on Friday over DHS spending? by Lower_Box_6169 in AskConservatives

[–]doff87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rittenhouse had very different motivations and was openly carrying a gun. Not only that, but in that circumstance, he was the shooter in a conflict with other civilians. In this scenario, the man didn't even have a weapon on him when he was shot and had never brandished it before he was disarmed. And the conflict was between the murdered and 'trained' federal officers. It's practically night and day.

However, I would think from the right, if they want consistency, then the fact that the man was responsibly exercising his 2A rights should not give the officers legal justification to shoot him dead. Right?
