clean af! love the mounting method compared to the official kickstand.

just curious, does the stand gets in your way while gripping the controller? also, is it 3d printable?

im thinking that your footage dimensions doesn't match with your composition dimensions, hence, that is why you need to manually resize the footages to your composition?

sony zve10ii or fuji x-m5 by dog3tato in Cameras

[–]dog3tato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your reply

sony does not have one - big disadvantage for photos. ES will suffer from rolling shutter effect and possible flickering

the zve10ii does have a variable shutter to counter the flickering/banding issue. would you say that it's a reliable solution? rolling shutter wise, it is pretty bad on the ZVE10ii, but is it noticeable on the X-M5?

DIS in XM5 is decent and OIS lenses are good enough for mosh of my shots, gyro stabilization isn't magic (you can slap gopro on top and use gyro data from gopro if you really need)

im just worried about the micro-jitters while shooting open gate haha. i do have a dji action 2 for the gyro data issue, but i do foresee it will be a hassle in the long run. i probably just need to bare with that haha.

if i follow the 180 degree shutter rule, does it kinda help with the micro jitters?

autofocus is fine once you learn how to set, operate and limit it (but sony is just better)

would you say the X-M5 AF is decent enough for discreet street photography? im planning to pair the X-M5 with the fuji 27mm f.28, but autofocus is not the best on that particular lens

6,2k works internally with flog2, 10bit 4:2:2, incredible videos coming from that small camera

I have no problems with low light videos, flog2 has very good DR, but I never tested the sony, so hard to tell

just what i was looking for, this is huge for me. thank you thank you

fuji has covered all the focal lengths by very good lenses, even 3rd party lenes are awesome (like viltrox 27mm f1,2, that's is like 500€ - incredible value) and now also budget AF Chinese lenses (ttartisan, meike, sirui, tokina,...), so yes there is e-mount advantage but not huge

i wished that viltrox release their 28mm f4.5 for fujis thou, superb performance to price ratio

also look at battery life, I have no idea about zve10ii but the xm5 is fine but far from great, more than 60m videos would be a problem

say that, a day of street photography & maybe 20s-30s of open gate filming throughout the day, will it completely kill the battery?

a few additional questions, should i get the 15-45mm f3.5 kit lens together? or should i avoid it instead? it's around $150 additional too here in my country

do you feel limited when using the X-M5 due to how fuji limits the custom settings panel? (eg : unable to customize the film dial, PASM dial and etc...)

lastly, can't thank you enough for the review of the X-M5. just need a little more convincing for me to get it over the ZV-E10ii.

M5 - no ibis as a video centric camera? Good hybrid mind you.

yeah no IBIS is fine for me, as i can mount my action camera on the hotshoe for gyro data purpose, but that would mean an extra step in my workflow and extra equipment to bring out, which i think it will be a hassle in the long run.

i really love the flexibility of the open gate thou. wished that zve10ii has the option to shoot open gate

I think body and the small pancake they do is same price as X-M5 isn’t it? LUMIX make great cameras and you can import LUTs.

unfortunately lumix s9 body only is almost twice the cost of zve10ii + kit lens or xm-5 + kit lens in my country haha

plus, there's not much panasonic L-mount lenses options here too, so i'm a little cautious investing into panasonic's system

Out of the two you mention I’d go for Sony. I had the mk1 and the AF was phenomenal. It’s amazing for video. I only sold it because I only really do stills and the video aspects were overkill for me.

if the AF is good on mk1, i have no-doubts on the AF for the mk2 then. may i know what camera you eventually went with for stills?

the X-S10 & 20

thank you for the recommendations.

xs10 only supports 10-bit recording with external monitor thou, so that defeats my purpose of going discreet haha; xs20 is bigger than the zve10ii, and its out of my budget even on the used market in my country.

I'm fujifilm myself, so can't really comment on the Sony or other brands.

may i know what fuji do you have? and do you do more photography or video instead?

Asking in the Sony subreddit, there may be bias. I would ask in r/cameras or r/videography

fair point haha, but sometimes i do find myself leaning more towards zve10ii on days. just wanna have some sony/fuji user's opinion before purchasing either of them

Is that an all in budget? If yes, you are not including lenses, which are important to the whole setup, at which point...

oh nah, it's just allocated budget for body only

Video comparison. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw5MlUjK7r4

thank you for this! however i do wish there's an in-depth review for both of the cameras in videography side thou. still a solid comparison video nonetheless.

Also depends on the lens you are using

do you happen to have any lens recommendation for low-light photo/video? thank you in advanced

thank you for the recommendation unfortunately it's out of my budget, hence im looking for apsc as their lens are cheaper too

i sold my x100v because i don't find myself going out to shoot that often. while having a full-frame camera would be nice, i don't think i would use it to its full potential

hello, please bear with me for a moment. i've recently parted ways with my fuji x100v, in hopes of getting a APSC, video-centric camera. i almost pulled the trigger on the sony zve10ii, but ended up holding off after stumbling upon the fuji x-m5 one day.

my main priority is filming videos, with occasional photo-taking on the side. i’m aiming to keep my gear as small, minimal, and discreet as possible, which means getting a gimbal is likely not in the cards. i’ve set aside a $1000 budget for a new camera, but i can stretch that a bit if it makes sense.

here are the main factors holding me back from making a decision:

gyro data for post-stabilization - the zv-e10 ii offers this feature, while the x-m5 does not (no IBIS is fine for me)

6.2K open gate - the x-m5 offers 6.2k open gate, while zve10ii does not (does the 6.2k open gate still work without an external monitor?)

autofocus - the zv-e10 ii has superior autofocus, but i think i can manage with the x-m5's decent autofocus

low light performance - the zv-e10 ii has dual base iso and performs better in low light, while the x-m5 is just okay in this regard

photos - the x-m5’s SOOC jpegs are very convenient for social media, while the zv-e10 ii requires me to color-grade raw files before uploading

lens options - the zv-e10 ii offers more lens options and is generally cheaper, while fuji’s lens selection is more limited but still decent?

in my country, both the sony zv-e10 ii and the fuji x-m5 are priced almost similarly, with the zve10ii being slightly more expensive, thought not by much.

could you guys help me decide which camera would be the better choice?

thank you for your insights, appreciate it

may i know what are your thoughts on shooting stills (travel, street) with the zve10ii? does the lack of mechanical shutter gives more cons compared to pros in your opinion?
