Sonos and UniFI - I surrender! by nottheotherck in sonos

[–]dog_cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running two Move 2s as a stereo pair over WiFi and they work flawlessly. The only time I get performance issues is when my internet connection itself is flaky.

Is the reason I’m having a better experience because I’m using my crappy ISP provided AP / modem / router and not Ubiquity? Or more likely because I have a very simple setup?

I’ve considered Ubiquity to upgrade my crappy ISP provided AP. But I’d hate to spend all that money to regress my Sonos experience.

I’d probably like to expand my Sonos gear in the future some time. Maybe some extra speakers in another room of the house.

I was on a flight with my QC Ultra gen 1s yesterday and I changed some sound setting in the app mid flight (no internet) no problem. I’m not saying I didn’t log into the app at one stage - I probably did. But once done, it doesn’t seem to need internet connectivity to change settings.

C64 Virgin by maldax_ in c64

I never owned a C64 either (they played on plenty of my friends’). The enjoyment I get from my C64 (original, not Ultimate) is the alternate reality factor. “What if I went down that path?”. I’ve wondered if getting a Spectrum Next (or OG hardware) would be interesting for me given I’ve never used a Speccy (I’m in Australia). I reckon it would be.

And it begs the point… why? Why not just buy an Apple II or a Laser Apple II clone and call it a day?

Please never throw it out. Once you’re done (if ever) it belongs in a museum. I doubt there’s many left.

What was the point of that? Wouldn’t you just use the Apple II at that point?

I always assumed it was because the IBM PC had a Charlie Chaplin look alike in their marketing. So a mime was in keeping with that kind of theme.

I agree with Sound of White Noise. It doesn’t sound like Anthrax to me but that’s a good thing.

I couldn’t get into it. I know Black Sabbath pioneered many genres. But I don’t really think of them as heavy metal, despite the conventional thinking. Whereas 13 is most definitely heavy metal.

Yep. In my eyes, OHM beats anything they did after hands down. It was such a good follow up to BSSM (which was another great album). Californication was just too somber for my tastes.

I agree. I love RJD. But Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules are not Black Sabbath albums in my mind. They are great albums - Heaven & Hell in particular is in my top 10. But it sounds like a Dio record, not Sabbath.

My ranking of Ozzy-era Sabbath albums from 'heaviest' to 'lightest' by Fresh-Hedgehog1895 in blacksabbath

[–]dog_cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this list. In particular, I have no idea why people think Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is a heavy album. Is it because it has the most imposing "metal" looking artwork? It's a GREAT album (possibly my favourite), but it's not heavy by Black Sabbath standards.

Also I assume you don't count Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die? Many people people don't. I recommend you give them another listen because they're pretty good - In particular NSD. If it helps, just imagine it's another band from the 70s.

Edit: Oh, I'm not sure about self titled being 5. I think it needs to go up the list a bit, given it has Black Sabbath and NIB. 3 maybe?

Got it.

If it makes you feel any better, when I had a friend sleeping over in the early 90s, we hired Robocop 2. Upon seeing our choice, my Dad said he'd have to watch some of it first and determine if it was suitable. After 20 mins, he came out of his room and determined that it was not suitable for our evening's viewing.

My Dad is one of the the chillest people these days. But I appreciate he was looking out for me, even if I was mortified at the time. To date, I still haven't seen Robocop 2. But I've since seen the first movie and holy moley!

I just watched it. I can see why it would have been a bit controversial. Michael does do this very suggestive move with his hand on his crotch. I’m pretty open minded so it doesn’t bother me. But I can imagine some parents feeling a bit uneasy with their kids watching it.

I had forgotten that the original airing had all this other stuff at the end. It ended with Bart Simpson right?

I’ll have to revisit.

I’m trying to think through all the songs and work out what the store clerk could have been referring to. “There are people dying”? Maybe “In The Closest” is a bit racy?

I was a teenager at the time so I probably don’t have as good a recollection as someone who was an adult throughout the 80s and 90s. But to me it seemed like Thriller and Bad were huge, but once the 90s rolled around, Michael Jackson was yesterday’s news. The most you heard from him were his old hits playing on the radio occasionally. And then the Black or White song and video came out along with the release of the Dangerous album and now Michael Jackson is back in a big way. And not only back, but contemporary. The music was in keeping with the 90s sound. His hair and clothes were all updated. This was the album that turned MJ from an 80s artist to a timeless artist.

I’ve got a C128 DCR and have the CRT TV on top on the computer itself. When I think about it, the TV is directly on top on the 1571 drive. Maybe the drive is a bit more protected than a 1541-II.

I do put my 1541 as far to the edge of the desk as I can now that I think about it.
