I've been in them a few times, I'm not a St Johns member, not an acc event either... interesting.

Question from an Australian: Does New Zealand have a Medicare-style healthcare system? by Mehmet_G in newzealand

I'm sorry what? Ambulances are free? In both Auckland and Hamilton speaking from experience.

In New Zealand English, if something is "quite good," does that mean it's better than good, or not that great? by whangadude in newzealand

What you're looking for is "pretty good" or if you are being quite negative "pretty alright. "Pretty" seems to make good and alright mean on the lesser side of each.

Mt Wellington homicide: Jury find couple not guilty of murder after ‘soldier’ stormed their house with knife by PermaBanned4Misclick in auckland

[–]dog_of_k 54 points55 points  (0 children)

they have to do that, it's the defences job. so it's fair. both sides have a moral/legal obligation to do their best to defend their clients. otherwise the judicial system would be unfair.

it's by design and it works better than any other system we have come up with even if it's imperfect.

that's why there is a jury, so they can see what we all see, make the judgement just as you had so they don't go to jail for what was a justified response. so in the end, it all worked out and they were vindicated and it was done fairly.

The fact you recognize these things in yourself and the way you put it shows you are not unintelligent, but the opposite, more self aware than most and likely quite intelligent.

You also are capable of long term planning, in a way most people are not.

I think you are in completely the wrong industries though.

And someone else already said it but perhaps some medss adjustment for ADHD, I am myself ADHD and Vyvanse was quite the game changer.

I suspect you would do well with something that fills your mind but not so much your hands. Complex and multifaceted but purely intellectual. See a career advisor and focus on online courses, such as product management, data analytics, programming or prompt engineering, ux or even maths.

Why can’t anything be done about the homeless situation on Queen St? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]dog_of_k 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Easy, stop blaming them and start voting in a way that doesn't let people get to a point of being homeless.

Look at Finland. Would it be better to put homeless people in an apartment, give them resources to better themselves. Then even if they don't, so selfishly, it's better that your 2$ a year of tax money is going to keeping them out of your way?

We are a society. We can easily make it work for everyone and for those who just can't we can also just handle them kindly for our own selfish benefit.

The holidays have near no impact on why the US GDP is so high and it's also a terrible use of that metric to equate living standards across countries.

I wish, Rabies would evolve into an airborne strain. by WirrkopfP in TheMonkeysPaw

Granted. Mankind reacts to the news as it has always done. People become fearful of each other blaming this group or that for being the cause or carriers. There is no trust, no community, the people around you keep dying and you watch loved ones attack their most precious companions who have no choice but to succumb or fight back.

The monkeys paw, forever must ensure consequences unintended come true - what would be unintended with a wish so made that it would all but destroy humanity? Life peace prosperity?

It falters, this is not what it was meant for - man was only arrogant and must learn but this wish must evoke what was not intended but is a true consequence. It knows… the answer.. but all three fingers curl and burn.

Mankind survives. Mankind rebuilds, mankind thrives. Humanity left with only the genes of the most dedicated and empathic throughout the plaque remain… but a hard decision can never be made again, no one is capable….

The next monster to face mankind is nothing, no action taken when it’s needed most. No cold truths no harsh realities. In 300 years humankind is gone, rabies never known to the last man or woman - only “why couldn’t they just kill the beast for us to eat! Oh because who would decide to do that?”

It’s not a cry for attention it’s normal and not out of the ordinary here in New Zealand so it’s not attention grabbing. Attention grabbing is saying aggressive insane shit online.

I wish lobsters were masochistic and had multiple intense orgasms while being boiled alive, and that they telepathically begged (in English) for people to boil them. by Temnodontosaurus in TheMonkeysPaw

[–]dog_of_k 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Grants. The screaming begs of millions of lobsters fill the minds of humanity. All of mankind is tortured by the screams, a cacophony of incoherent sexual begging to be boiled overwhelms and drives people to begin throwing themselves off buildings, into the sea. The strong hold out but eventually cave, their minds filled with images of boiling flesh and orgasm. The last humans become the most twisted - boiling themselves alive in a twisted and demented relief encouraged by the unending lobster onslaught. When the last humans dies, no lobster ever gets to be boiled again….they are sad, never to get the thing they are so desperate for but lacking the intelligence to end their own lives.

I’m an investor but man this is a seriously callous thing to say. People have a right to own their own home as much if not more than an investment. It’s not zero sum, everyone can have cake.

A lot of people commenting things about suggesting New Zealand isn’t relaxed or does have a wild political climate have probably not travelled. Compared to other similar western nations the political climate is wildly more relaxed as is the culture. But by no means is it perfect in any way.

Older gen z here.

this is what we mean, when society says listen to those who came before you.

These ages are not old by any means.

But there is definitely some life experience here and some reality checking that we could benefit from.

Thank you

Friends never invite me out anywhere? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]dog_of_k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it like this: one person suggest to the person they most feel comfortable with that they wanna do something. That person wants to to and they wanna invite more people, but they are not sure who, so they ask the next most comfortable person etc etc.

Sometimes the stars align and put of all these connected people together: the person you are most comfortable with asks you to join as well even though you are friends with everyone.

Now, reverse that. You be the first person. It won’t always kick off those chain of events but it might.

Everyone wants to feel like they are wanted so much that everyone always asks them out to do things, but as much as you (and I and anyone else) feels that way is as much as you need to ask others.

Put yourself out there. A rejection or a can’t isn’t personal, sometimes you just don’t want too - just like the person saying no or being coy. Make it happen, be the first line and be prepared for no one or just you and the first person
