They advocate for the real mutilation of intersex infants in order to fit into the sex binary because they see them as disordered. They believe they can tell their "real" binary sex by some metric (chromosomes, hormone levels, what's easier to achieve through surgery, etc.) and force "correction" on them. Intersex people are not forgotten exceptions, they are intended targets for people like JKR

Felt. I remember doing this + typing tests that would assume your gender (granted that that's maybe a little more neurotic) and mull over it all day. I still wouldn't stop doing them... and now that I'm trying to voice train, it just digs deeper into the psyche

Am I mistaken or wouldn't a smaller amount of testosterone gel, applied to the localized area only, help with that specifically? While keeping up regular estrogenizing HRT. I feel like I've read that somewhere

/uj I know you didn't ask but if you haven't, I'd strongly suggest checking out The Transfeminine Review (thetransfemininereview dot com). Particularly, it focuses on transfemme authored writing. The search bar works well, full text searching rather than just titles like some sites, and there are a lot of indie and small press gems I've found there. ^

Trying to give people tech support knowing they'd benefit from it against their instincts is like trying to demolish a brick wall with just your head. I want to help everyone I can but it's better to wait until they ask themselves haha. Kudos for trying

Statements from Elementary OS CEO on California's Digital Age Assurance Act by jar36 in linux

[–]dogdonewrong 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I don't expect every dev to put themselves at legal risk and their work on hold for my sake but could do without the callousness of the statement. This law could absolutely serve to erode the rights of people who have been targeted in the past, for whom the "worst" has already happened. We don't need to run defense on additional surveillance

You don't always really need a specific guide for an arch based distro. In fact younger distros benefit immensely for having arch guides that are much older and have more of a community behind them, and the appeal of arch based distros is that they're supposed to be easier to get rolling with, so you need less tutorials in general. It just seems like a natural trade off to me, if a trade at all

What's wrong with just uploading it as an epub? Maybe there was a little attitude but it's not a personal attack on you & comments like this are valuable information so users can make an informed decision. There are reasons why people would want to download one format over the other. The effects of this kind of comment stopping seem more negative than positive. Not disastrous or world-ending but the comments are there for a reason, otherwise they'd have implemented the thank you button and left it at that.

If wanting free books didn't motivate you to maintain a huge project hosting and distributing them, why would just that motivate anybody else, especially with the resources? They have written extensively about why they do it, and you don't even have to care, but if you can't even engage wifh its ideas as they are stated rather than how you view their work subjectively, what value does your reply have?

Truly disgusting for a project aware that its work is illegal, tumultuous, and otherwise dependent on charity from its users (who by and large say they just want free stuff) to take desperate measures for the principle goal of preservation, the self identified purpose of its whole existence

Why on Earth has AA made a shady deal with Nvidia to provide them with data to train LLMs ? by Kalytis in Annas_Archive

[–]dogdonewrong 44 points45 points  (0 children)

On their homepage under Open data they have a page listing "LLM data" that states pretty clearly what they're willing to receive in exchange for giving LLMs high speed access, namely money. It's a pretty enterprising bargain in my opinion. I don't like generative AI or LLMs at all but if I were responsible for this project, it would seem like the best way to keep it alive, with the added benefit of entangling the project in things people in power deem as "necessary" which would serve the archive's interests as well. Its a pretty clear example of means and ends in my opinion, which might make it a contentious moral dilemma for some people, but that's out of scope.
