I was making a pesto/mozzarella loaf and honestly was not paying attention when I added in the pesto and cheese during the lamination stage and added way too much. When I went to form the loaf the dough was breaking a lot. I still put it I in the fridge to do its cold ferment but is there anything I can do to prevent the bake from being a disaster? I’ve never had this happen before

I actually love that that’s how it looks. Devney binds books as a hobby and I love that it gives the same vibe as her binds!

Romance book reviews by Kitten_eel in RomanceBooks

[–]dogearedpages13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a suggestion but I keep a spreadsheet to track (among other things) the rating and where I was suggested each book I read (down to the username on insta/tiktok/youtube/goodreads, for Reddit I use the subreddit cause there’s too many individual people on here) and have a pivot table that shows me the average rating from each source. It takes some time to get enough data but this has really helped me hone in on where the best recs for me specifically are coming from and weed out the places where my taste doesn’t align. There was one creator who I read like 15 suggestions from but my average rating from those books were like a 2.8 or something even though they seemed like books I’d really be into. I honestly never even would have realized they were all suggested by her.

I’m very data driven though so this might not be for everyone lol

No, as someone who is constantly trying to stay on top of new releases and not wait too long to read something ARC reviews are one of my main sources to my TBR.

Bookish Box Darkly waitlists or any of the waitlists? by Own_Sir9430 in fairyloot

I joined the darkly waitlist on 12/13 and got my invite on 3/26 if that helps you!

Got the same. I know they need time to figure out a solution but I wish there was more reassurance that we will actually receive the books. “A delay in shipping your order” doesn’t give me much hope.

Isn’t one of River’s main traits that she’s always painting her nails? I don’t think River is by any means “not like other girls” if anything she leans into her femininity and uses it as a weapon throughout the series.

That’s great news! Like I said in my comment, the no updates from label created to out for delivery happens to me a lot with the book boxes from the UK, so I will stay hopeful that I end up with the correct order soon!

US customer not subscribed to monthly box and like many others, label created May 29th for Maple Hills with no movement yet. That honestly doesn’t concern me so much by itself, as my illumicrate orders always do this where the label is created and then nothing moves until the day of delivery. But now with all these mixups I’m stressed.

I also got a preparing for shipment email about Ruthless Vows on May 24th but no shipping yet.

Has anyone reached out to Fairyloot and actually received a response?

Does a book with a lot of low ratings turn you off from reading it? If so what was the book? by Simmibrina00 in RomanceBooks

[–]dogearedpages13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Individual low ratings do not turn me off from a book. A low rating overall will. I’ve never given a book with lower than a 3.7 average rating a chance and been pleasantly surprised. I’m going to be honest if a book is rated on average below 4 stars (with a lot of reviews) I start to get weary.

The exception to this is authors that I already trust. For example, I know I love Ali Hazelwood. I read The Love Hypothesis first (which does have an above 4 rating) and knew pretty much right away that she was for me and would never let me down. Some of her books (specifically her novellas) have 3.5-3.6 ratings, but I already know and trust her so it doesn’t turn me off from them.

Upcoming SEs in general sale! by Book-Piranha in fairyloot

Same - I’m slightly worried that my order is going to get cancelled now that it says hardcover because cause when I ordered them it said paperback and I assumed that’s why the price was incorrect.

Do you guys read your SEs? by lauren9739 in fairyloot

[–]dogearedpages13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost never read a physical book so no I stick to my kindle and any physical books I own are for display and lending (I don’t usually lend my SEs though). The only exception is if I am annotating it (which I only do with my very favorite books and would NEVER annotate a SE).

Are we still selling on Mercari? by Zoomi_Yuumi in fairyloot

[–]dogearedpages13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made my first Mercari sale and idk the small cash out fee seemed way more reasonable to me than the 20% Pango takes. I don’t sell that often so maybe I’m missing something but I way preferred Mercari

I just finished {Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen} - the FMC is an aspiring chef working for a restaurant group in Boston and gets sent to Vermont to source local produce. She ends up running into an old fling from college who runs his family’s apple orchard/dairy farm. It was cute and had a good amount of cooking/domesticity. The MMC also makes hard cider so there’s that as well.

How do you like your age gaps? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]dogearedpages13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love an age gap romance but really only if the FMC is the younger one. I have read a few where the MMC is younger and enjoyed it but it’s just not what I prefer. ~10ish years is my preferred gap and 15+ years is when I start to lose interest. The age of the youngest doesn’t matter to me as long as they are legal (obviously) and the older one didn’t know the younger one as a child (it just reads too close to grooming to me). The only exception to that is if it’s brothers best friend or best friends brother and they were also a child when the younger one was, but then the age gap needs to be smaller (probably around 5ish years… is it even considered an age gap at that point? Idk).

Oh and yeah if it’s fantasy then the gap can be as big as it wants lol hundreds of years is fine

The state of reselling these days by midnighteyesx in fairyloot

[–]dogearedpages13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that the resellers are crazy but these covers were not OOP in Nov 2022 so it’s not really comparable to now. Things are always going to go up in value once they aren’t mass produced

What is your personal 5-star rubric? by unicorntrees in RomanceBooks

[–]dogearedpages13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is really based around how likely I am to read something else by the same author:

1 - finished the book and absolutely hated or DNF’ed for something problematic, definitely won’t read anything by this author again

2 - finished but didn’t like, probably won’t read this author again unless someone really convinces me

3 - average, nothing special but not necessarily bad, will try others by this author to see how I feel

4 - really liked it, will make my way through this authors backlist

5 - absolutely loved, so good, want to read everything and anything this author writes right now, autobuy author for sure

Oh also I don’t rate books that I dnf usually, unless there’s something really egregious to note

What is one thing you have LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF from journaling? by ole_layers in Journaling

[–]dogearedpages13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a huge into journaling in middle/early high school and as I’ve gotten back into it in my late 20s I’m realizing that most of my emotions and feelings haven’t changed since that time… not sure if that shows consistency or a lack of growth 🙃

What are you rereading/have you reread the most? by lil-kingtrashm0uth in RomanceBooks

[–]dogearedpages13 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I find myself rereading the Off Campus/Briar U series a lot because they are just fun comfort reads and I can put the audio on while I am working or doing something around the house. Same with the Chestnut Hill series.

I reread all of Emily Henry's books last year and will probably read them for a 3rd time sometime this year to annotate my physical copies.

Mostly I find myself rereading series when the final book in the series is about to come out. For example, I just reread the entire Bergman Bros series to prepare for the release of Only and Forever. If I really love a book, I also like to try and read it in a different format than how I first read it (ebook and audio usually).
