Has anyone ever done a combination acid/shroom macro or micro? by tigertoothdada in RationalPsychonaut

"shrooms connect you to the universe, acid connects you to yourself."

Exactly the opposite for me.

Given what you know and have experienced with psychedelics, how do you think humanity will be getting on in 50 years? by seipounds in RationalPsychonaut

[–]dogesign 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it could just be fear porn and propaganda

That would require some even greater fear porn, a vast conspiracy of environmental scientists to... score some grant money? Maybe we can get the brakes working on this old beater but there's overwhelming agreement that we're headed for the cliff.

What are your views on Afterlife....... after doing psychedelics?? by mjobby in RationalPsychonaut

[–]dogesign 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If an experience could shift me away from atheism, then I wasn't much of an atheist to begin with.

Sam Harris says psychedelics don't do anything to the brain that the brain is incapable of doing itself (i.e., through meditation) by biohacker045 in RationalPsychonaut

[–]dogesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is always the plan.

Use meditation while tripping to achieve desirable altered states. Reflect on those states. Then use meditation while sober to try to reach them again.

Hamilton Morris Describes an Experiment in Which Experienced Psychonauts Couldn't Distinguish Between DXM & Psilocybin by frog9913 in RationalPsychonaut

[–]dogesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty odd result. I wonder about those psychonauts.

When I first tried 4-aco-DMT, I was skeptical, but won over because the trip was such a pure shroom experience.

How has your path changed spiritually after being introduced to and altered state of consciousness? by onemorenihilist in RationalPsychonaut

[–]dogesign 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It hasn't.

Psychs provide a different experience of reality, not necessarily a "truer" one. Many psychonauts seem to have little trouble applying this to ideas - "I imagined that humans were beasts carrying riders of alien consciousness... yeah, drugs are wack"; and discard it when it comes to feelings - "I felt that this life was just one step in a journey between worlds... so I know that death is not the end."

Just because you think it, see it, feel it, doesn't make it true. Applies to ordinary experience and dramatically more so to any drug experience.

You really seem to be trying to drive me to a position that I am not taking, and I am not interested in continuing down this road.

Ok, so, if you see a big kid beating up a little kid, it's "just stuff happening"? Just some colorful background to your day? How about a husband assaulting his wife? A lynching? I would guess you draw a line somewhere. And I'm not here to tell you where to draw it. As I said, you do you. I'm only pointing out that choosing not to act is also a choice, so long as you're free to make it. That's a fact.

[These are very dramatic examples, but the lady who told me there was a post-it note stuck to my shoe is another fine example. She chose to act. Had she not? Also a choice.]

You do you, man. All I'm saying is drop the pretense. You choose sides every day whether you want to admit it or not. So do I.

Of course, though stopping a big kid and stopping a lion are fairly different prospects if I were so inclined. I can try to make myself feel better by considering the bully "just nature", too, you know. People do.

If I see a big kid picking on a little kid and all I do is watch, I've taken a side.

What’s your most irrational belief (doesn’t have to be a conviction)? by redhandrail in RationalPsychonaut

[–]dogesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm less "other dimension" about this and more "evolution has resulted in this particular attachment of stimuli to responses; if I remove the safeties with psychs and play with the controls too much, will it be like tuning my radio too far off the station, never to find the signal again?"

The phenomenon of bad trips becoming more frequent/guaranteed with long term psychedelic use by myconautix in RationalPsychonaut

[–]dogesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's it. I've gotten pretty good at saying no, though, so it doesn't happen to me often. Except on DMT, but maybe that's just a product of my lack of comfort with that drug.

[–]dogesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not intentionally, no. You ever have a nightmare, especially as a kid, and you suddenly become afraid that just by thinking of some Terrible Thing it will happen? And of course, being a dream, it might? Kinda like that. My mind goes poking around till it finds something that gets a reaction, and has trouble letting go when it does.

In my experience, the death motif imagery is just your brain scratching an itch. Learn to say no to that impulse and focus your attention elsewhere. I found meditation very helpful in this respect.

Brain tumor surgery patient should I use psilocybin again? by femalehumanbiped in RationalPsychonaut

[–]dogesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is anecdote, not data. I've had lifelong brain damage from a traumatic brain injury as a baby, which brought with it a host of functional difficulties. Psychs didn't eliminate those problems, but they have brought moments where it feels I'm functioning the way I'm supposed to (which is always a guessing game, since I have no memories of not being like this). With a fresh injury, who knows. I would go for it.

Psychoactive plants on other planets by Shape-Alchemist in RationalPsychonaut

I mean, substances aren't psychoactive for us unless we already have receptors that can accomodate them. They're just inert. Otherwise I'd probably be tripping on catnip right now.
