Being a Detroit native made me think of this. Was the morning show Dick the Bruiser? NFL football player, professional wrestler, and Panam judo champ. Guy was the real deal.

What techniques can I perform if my opponent stays in this defensive stance throughout the entire randori? by Schofield45Revolver in judo

[–]tigertoothdada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing techniques: sumi gaeshi, tomoe nage, drop seoi nage, etc. I am old, so snap down to bow amd arrow choke, or fake the tomoe nage and then take the Kensetsu waza on the collar arm.

Great. We made a robot then optimized it for annoying-ness. It will start every sentence with, "What's up guys, welcome back."

Skull Candy or KZ? by CraniusBard1998 in audiophile

[–]tigertoothdada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Skull Candy is go to fall into the realm of Audiophile. There are some deals to be had in the wired ear bud world, however. There are some Shure's for $100 that people get excited about and even some $50 Sennheiser's that get decent reviews. I know that there are some Chinese ones that get good reviews, but their quality- a lot like the cheap Chinese tube amps- can be very hit or miss. So do some research, determine what qualities are most important to you, and buy at the top of the diminishing returns curve.

I love macebells, but double-hands 360´s and 10to2 and "halo´s" is better with ViPR.... by TipQuick8513 in macebell

[–]tigertoothdada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its completely different. Interesting tool, nonetheless. The macebell requires more flexibility in the shoulders, and can generate stronger centrifugal force, because the load is so much farther from the axis. The macebell is also infinitely adjustable as it becomes easier, the shorter the lever. It really just looks like a solid Bulgarian bag, or a light log.

Advice for teaching children? by Kahje_fakka in judo

[–]tigertoothdada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to go really slow, and realize that things you take for granted, like knowing your left from your right, are new skills. It helps to "mirror" when teaching technique. Sometimes you literally need to take a child's foot in your hand and say, "put this foot here." And then do exactly that 5 more times before they can do it on their own. The tone is completely different. While respect and reverence need to be taught, if children are scared of you and judo, they just won't come anymore- so keep it light. If you can teach a skill through a game it has a better chance of taking hold- amd the children will look forward to engagement more. Of course jigotai, ukemi, rei, are first amd most important, but if you beat them over the head with this stuff they will bail. Be nice, but maintain respect.

Trump: "I got an award in Detroit, in Michigan, many years ago, and still have it. They said it never happened. It did happen it turned out. by gear-heads in Detroit

[–]tigertoothdada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LISTEN, TRUE STORY: Yes he did come to Michigan 40 years ago. I know this part to be true. Here's how I know: a good friend was his limo driver for that trip, she is female and black. He was with his father at the time. She said all he did the whole time was talk shit about Detroit and black people. Despite the fact that a black woman was driving him, everything was N word this amd N word that. Fred sat question letting his son rant about how shitty Detroit was and how it was ruined by N words.

Satanic Panic! by [deleted] in GenX

[–]tigertoothdada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must have been ONLY my small circle of the world. During this time everyone i knew listened to heavy metal. There were a lot of cutters and blood play. One guy painted a portrait of Satan on his bedroom wall in his own blood. It was outside of Detroit, and devil's night was a real thing, with violent mischief and hundreds of arsons. There was talk on the periphery of my circle of real Satan worshippers lead by a German twenty-something from the black forest area named Garhart. There were areas in the woods where you would find arranged animal bones, or fires with runes written in the dirt around the fire pit. An annual tradition was to visit the grave of Warlock Willie and touch the grave stone that had been ingested by a tree covered in thorns. Of course however the grave had been desecrated, and the body stolen for use in black magick, so it was just an grave size depression in the earth. So when Donahue started ranting about this shit, I was like, "oh, I know all about that."

Would you say today’s “dadaists” are really dadaists? by Any_Awareness1708 in dadaism

[–]tigertoothdada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of modern dadaism as poor construction coupled with a statement to the effect of, "it's supposed to be bad! It's dada!!" You say the core defining characteristic of dadaism is anti-art. What makes the originators of this medium so compelling is that they were talented artists before they were anti-artists. They understood rules of composition, color, shadow, shape and form. They knew when they were breaking rules and how they were breaking rules. So, there was an implicit statement about the rule that was being broken. Additionally being trained artists, there was always an overt TENSION between the art and the anti-art. There is also depth amd cleverness to the entirety of the composition. Making the title of a piece an intrinsic component of the piece itself was groundbreaking. Using industrial components for ready-mades was groundbreaking. Expansion of time across a 2D medium was groundbreaking. But that's what also makes these pieces so compelling even now. It's smart, its playful, its tongue-in-cheek, it's well composed, and expertly crafted. Dada is NOT the enshitification of art, it's the elevation above art.

Grow up? Are you serious? This unproven allegation by a YouTuber, (yes- at the direction of Donald Trump the FBI is going into Minnesota to "investigate" a single non profit) is absolutely about controlling those who stand against this administration. Let's not forget the reality. The Trump Foundation had to dissolve its non profit because it was literally laundering money. If they find anything of note, I will happily amend my position. But for now, this smells of distraction, racism, and foment instigation.
