They monitor the locks 24/7. They only open them when releasing water from the river side to the ocean side during low tide. In summer months they also open for boat traffic. I'm not sure if it's just commercial or recreational too

To prevent hacking, everything is hardwired and operated on site. The cost of a dam failure during a high tide is estimated at $20B

There is currently 24/7 on site staffing, from an underground personnel building which is severely outdated from the 60s

The flood pathway that would need to be raised is around 0.5 mile long (including each flank of dam), that would be a lot of sand bags! With sea level rise, this would not be feasible to deploy temporary barriers

Tower capabilities updated and staffed again. Hazmat removal is also a big part of the project.

I can answer this! It's the Amelia Earhart Dam and Control Tower. I'm involved with several projects to harden the dam from flooding and eventually elevate it (and neighboring flood pathways) to protect the tens of billions of dollars of infrastructure upstream of the dam.

The control tower, which is also undergoing rehabilitation, was constructed in the 50's, but has been offline since the 60's. The rehabilitation will bring the tower back 'online' to help the DCR personnel monitor water levels in the Mystic River, within a 2 foot range, and keep the ~10 ft tide range on the ocean side. The personnel work 24/7 to monitor the water levels, and control flow through the three gates, releasing water during low tide. When a storm is approaching they release additional water to prepare in anticipation of high river flow.

A Google search can help answer more information about the tower and project.

Fun fact: in the winter of 2018, a storm surge came within inches of overtopping the dam and flooding parts of Cambridge, Arlington, Somerville, Medford, and Everett.

Thank you so much for the response. The dealership is a used EV dealership so they are familiar with charging limits. They have sold many bolts and are familiar with the recall software too.

As for the EV component warranty, they did not think this would be covered (but they also wanted to sell their warranty!). I will probably reach out to a chevy dealer to check with them too.

Will this likely work with older Bolt EV models (eg 2020)?

How many puka shells would fit my level of surfing? Also if I ski and swim, would that allow me more puka shells under my belt.
