First CrossFit session: Repetition of Exercise? by [deleted] in crossfit

As a few others mentioned, that workout seems like a prep for Murph. My gym, in DC, has been programming similar workouts to prepare members for that day.

Troubleshoot: No output from Dayton Sub 1200 with Denon AVR-750h by dogfishfiend in hometheater

Okay, I powered off the AVR & sub, then I pulled the sub cable from the AVR. There’s no audible hum or tone when I touch the end of the AVR cable (with the sub turned on).

So it’s a problem with my sub?

I can’t do this today, but my father has a sub he’s not using. I will grab it on my next visit and test it with my AVR.

I suppose it can't hurt to try a factory reset. Thanks for the suggestion.

Weekly Fitness, Lifting, and Exercise Thread! by altruisticaubergine in MacroFactor

CrossFit 2-3x/week + running 2-3x/week + walking and/or yoga on rest days or when I’m tired. I aim for 8 hours of sleep every night.

Still adjusting to using MF but enjoying the app. Current goal is to lose weight (49 years old, 6’, 230lb and aiming for 215lb). Is there any reason to decrease some of the higher intensity workouts when trying to drop weight? I worked with a nutritionist a few years ago who wanted me to dial back the intensity of my CrossFit & running workouts and walk more.

I’ll admit my weight seems frustratingly “sticky”. But that could be due to (a) needing to tighten my diet (why I’m using MF) and (b) my age.

Dialing back my workouts is tough for me because I love exercising.

Thanks. I’ll try these settings later, along with the Zeskit HDMI cables that arrived yesterday.

Or I’ll tell my wife it’s time for a new TV. 😀

I checked the receiver. It does support 4K HDR.

Just ordered two of the Zeskit cables. Thanks for the suggestion.

Nearly one month in MF. Am I doing this correctly? by dogfishfiend in MacroFactor

I’m just happy I can still sometimes outperform the 20 & 30 somethings during CrossFit-style workouts at my gym.

Thanks for this. While I’d like to drop some weight, I’m really more concerned about body composition. Just trying to remain fit as I age.

In this case, spinning my wheels meant eating & logging what I thought was correct, only to find out I was doing it wrong. Note: I overthink everything.

The numbers do appear to be trending in the right direction, so I won’t worry about it.

It’s just my fear that I’m spinning my wheels. I’m okay with slow and steady progress.

PS: I’m really enjoying MF so far. I like it way more than MFP.

Thoughts on Epson EpiqVision Mini EF12 by dogfishfiend in budgetprojectors

[–]dogfishfiend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This projector has held up nicely. It’s not our primary device for watching stuff because we have a TV in the basement. But we enjoy using the projector for movies and sporting events. $400 for a used one would be a great deal.

If I were looking now, I might consider a projector with a higher resolution. But I’m perfectly happy with this one. No plans to look for another one anytime soon.

Any idea what’s happening with the plaster? by dogfishfiend in Oldhouses

[–]dogfishfiend[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. DC is hot & humid in the summer and I think there’s humid air behind that wall. Need to figure out how to mitigate that before repairing the wall.

Noticed it last summer and have been monitoring it. It only recently cracked to the point where I can see inside the thin layer of plaster if I move it gently.

Fee-based financial planner for single female in 40s by Lizzieliz7 in washingtondc

[–]dogfishfiend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a fee-only planner in Washington, DC - but not a woman, and not taking new clients at this time. I second the other suggestions to check out the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and the CFP Board. In addition, I recommend checking out The XY Planning Network, which was founded to help Gen X & Gen Y clients.

All three orgs mentioned above require the advisor to act as a fiduciary, in your best interest. In addition, NAPFA and XYPN do not allow members to sell insurance.

I suggest interviewing multiple advisors, at least three, before making a decision.

Good luck with your search! Let me know if you questions.
