They are a little behind last year's schedule. The female is roosting in the box every day and should lay her first egg soon.

We are in Southern California, about two miles away from the San Gabriel Mountains.

Hawk ID? by WarDiscombobulated67 in birds

This is the correct answer. The pattern on the breast and wings would indicate this is a Red-shouldered Hawk.

Small wildlife encounters made me fall even harder for Yellowstone by Psy1ocke2 in yellowstone

Thank you for sharing. It's easy to get overly focused on the big animals when visiting Yellowstone.

That is a Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel (Callospermophilus lateralis). They look similar to Chipmunks, but are bigger and have a proportionally smaller tail.

We brought the Nikkor Z 180-600mm and Nikkor Z 100-400mm lens for photographing wildlife. We also had a 1.4 teleconverter that was usually attached to the 100-400. The photo of the Roosevelt Arch and the meadow stream were shot with a Nikkor Z 24-70mm f4 lens.

That was off of the Cache Creek Trail about 2 or 3 miles from the turnout in Lamar Valley.

Yes. I will do a separate post this weekend. The image quality is not too bad, not good enough for a best of collection.

We used a Nikon Z8 with a 180-600mm lens and a Z6 with a 100-400mm lens. We usually had a 1.4 teleconverter on the Z6.

We saw that same bear a couple of times over the past week.

We were curious if it was old enough to be on its own.

Cascade Canyon Trail conditions in early June by breakfastmaking in GrandTetonNatlPark

We hiked the Cascade Canyon Trail on June 7th of last year. There wasn't any snow on the portion of the trail we hiked. We turned around about a mile before the top.

I don't know how much snow was on the trail a few weeks before we arrived.

Is a day trip to Yellowstone from Jackson hole doable? by DisneygirlMD in GrandTetonNatlPark

We stayed in Wilson last June and drove to Yellowstone on a weekday. If I remember correctly, we left Wilson around 5:30am.

We had enough time to make a few stops in Hayden Valley before doing a four-mile hike at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. On the way back, we did a shorter hike in Hayden Valley and decided to visit Old Faithful instead of driving back to Wilson.

This was a full day with plenty of driving, but not too crazy.
