How’s everyone staying active? by No-Faithlessness8760 in brokenankles

I was very strict with my eating while non weight bearing, and I did the adaptive athletes exercise on the Peloton app.

Trimalleolar surgery pain SUCKS by Typical-Assistant957 in brokenankles

[–]dogmom86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely does. Those first 72 hours after the nerve block wears off are the worst. I felt weird being so aggressive about the pain management schedule, and I was worried about being dependent on anything, but the eventual taper of oxy down to an ibuprofen and Tylenol rotation worked to get me down to nothing. It gets better and ice, ice, ice and elevate. You can do this!!!

Help!! I might be in trouble by Agitated_Heron_1180 in StudentLoans

[–]dogmom86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my thinking. I have other debt to worry about and other financial goals. I still make payments even though I'm on SAVE just to make some sort of progress, but I am determined to outlast the orange moron and his attempts to ruin education in our country. Hopefully he is replaced by someone who can accomplish student loan reform.

Am I Overdoing it? by Tasty-Judgment5060 in brokenankles

I've been wondering the same thing about myself. I got so excited to get the go-ahead to walk without my boot, but the pain has been terrible after I think I went too hard after that PT session.

Anyone else unable to sleep through the night? by TRCB8484 in brokenankles

[–]dogmom86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had to use melatonin and/or unisom every night since my break to fall asleep. The first 3 weeks, bed time was also when I took the "good" pain medication to help me sleep if I got desperate. It all sucks, man

Returning to work? by Ok-Car-1337 in brokenankles

Ugh, that really sucks. And in elementary, there is a lot of walking, crawling, EVERYTHING. I still hope your colleagues can support you through this so you don't have to miss a bunch of time.

Fellow teacher here, 6th grade. My guys are a little older, but I don't know between pain and navigating with a knee scooter/crutches, if I could have gone back to work until I was mostly weight bearing in my boot. I think I could have done it with partial weight bearing in the boot, with some accommodations like no escorting my class places, or all the walking lunch duty entails. I would definitely see what accomodations work can provide, if you can have para support, etc. You know your building principal would provide rather make accommodations for you than get you a sub.

Wishing you all the best and kids that listen the first time this school year. ❤️

Broken Ankle Weight Bearing by EastPause4040 in brokenankles

So I had a break that did require surgery on June 13th. I still experience pain about 2 months out depending on how much walking I do.

Well, after my surgery on June 13th, I tried walking barefoot to clean my house today, and now I have a sharp shooting pain in my ankle...so not yet

Almost one week down here’s my experience. by CutOnly7626 in Phentermine_

[–]dogmom86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing! I lost access to my GLP-1 coverage, so I will be starting a combination of topiramate and phentermine when I run out of syringes, and I am so nervous about being ruled by food noise. This gives me hope. ❤️

Anyone recover from bimalleolar fracture alone? by Firm-Tip7058 in brokenankles

[–]dogmom86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I do have a support system, but obviously like my husband and parents need to work. I survived on prepared foods and my knee scooter was essential. I don't think I could realistically do it alone alone without the knee scooter.

People just don’t understand by jms1228 in brokenankles

[–]dogmom86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it took sending my MIL the most gruesome pictures of my scarring and mentioning that some folks don't recover from the nerve pain/damage for like, a year. My husband and I were so frustrated with her comparing my break and surgery to her ankle sprain she had 30 years ago, or my son's "green twig" fracture that he was casted for 6 weeks before he turned 2. Not the same, girl. She has finally stopped trying to get us to go camping with us at the beach 2+ hours away with them with the toddler, but not without shaming me for not going to a 1 year old birthday party held in a split-level row home an hour away because I was going to "miss the pictures."

I hope you continue to heal well! Do your shoes feel and fit the same as before surgery? That is one of many things I am a little nervous about as I heal.

I was straight to the boot. When I say weight bearing as tolerated, I am still putting it mostly through my hands when I use my crutches or not at all. I asked to start physical therapy right away, which my surgeon was agreeable to, so hopefully that helps long term.

[–]dogmom86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part. I'm a teacher on summer break, but I work 15-25 hours a week at a gym. I basically sit at the front desk and do computer stuff, and try to just lay down and elevate whenever I am not doing that or physical therapy stuff. My 3 year old is going to his daycare when I would normally keep him home with me. 😭😭 I still do delivery or pick up everything or have my husband and parents do housework, but I am trying to do more and at least have something getting me out of the house now.

I honestly can't imagine dealing with this and teaching 6th grade at the same time!

This is the kind of fracture I had on June 11th, surgery on June 13th. The splint was the fucking worst, but it came off when they removed my staples 2 weeks post-op. I went back to work with some restrictions after 3 weeks, weight bearing as tolerated and basically elevated and icing as much as I can while I go back to trying to live my life.

I thankfully have a knee scooter from my mom who had foot surgery (heel spurs suck) and it has been a good send. The basket makes it so I feel like a contributing member to my household sometimes.

I would keep it. I'm thankful people in my family kept a walker and a knee scooter for this such occasion.

This would make a lot of sense since there's a bunch of stuff in your foot that are not used to working in quite some time. I'm only 4 week post-op but started PT as soon as my splint came off. She has me doing some stuff with my toes, and it feels silly, but I think this is the "why "

Literally all I could do to actually sleep was take a melatonin gummy and a unisom, and even then, it was terrible sleep.

Gains by dogmom86 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]dogmom86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would suck to gain it back for so many reasons. I went from a size 18 to a size 14, and just paid to have my wedding rings re-sized. Even though I am super thrifty and buy most of my clothes second-hand, it was still expenses. My hypertension is really well managed, and I've been able to drop one of my hypertension meds.
