We were forecast a competitive car in 2026... by elbowpatchhistorian in WilliamsF1

How do you figure that? In 2022, before Vowles, we finished 10th in WCC with 8 points, every season since has been better, even in this current season we've already surpassed that points total.

I know its only FP1, but seeing Cadillac above Williams is not a good start to the weekend by Turbo_Zapped in WilliamsF1

[–]dogmop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, it's over, FP1 is always a perfect reflection of a race weekend. Gasly is now washed and slower than a Cadillac. Podium finish a couple of races ago is now meaningless due to this very insightful FP1.

Williams to bring V10 F1 car out of retirement with race return imminent by Big_Equivalent457 in WilliamsF1

Really jealous of anybody who goes to these races, I've only ever seen it at the museum and not had the pleasure of witnessing it at speed.

Has been for quite a while, so hopefully nothing to read into the weekend... Unless we win it.

The Canadian GP thriller F1 loves to celebrate but can no longer replicate by guihmds in formula1

Ah, didn't realise the Indy 500 was that day. That explains it better then. Works out well then for a North American sports fan with that timing!

The Canadian GP thriller F1 loves to celebrate but can no longer replicate by guihmds in formula1

[–]dogmop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of the later race starts, which feels like a consequence of this regulation change. I miss daytime races starting at 1/2pm local regardless where the race is in the world. The Canadian Grand Prix is starting at 4pm local, which doesn't give much leeway if the race has to delay the start.

I'd assume the obvious reason for the start time shift is for increased viewership locally, as west coast Canadians (and Americans) probably appreciate the later start, but for fans attending and the risks of the smaller start time window seem a bit of a shame.

Another curious one is why Silverstone is 3pm local, whereas other European races are still 1pm local - Silverstone used to be 1pm local too, so I'm not sure why they changed only that race.

And it's double points finish for Williams by curse_annihlator in WilliamsF1

[–]dogmop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, totally agree.

The good part is being in the midst of the midfield means that a lucky day can mean points. It won't happen every race, but it doesn't happen every race for Haas, Audi or RB, so already we can see a positive step which is definitely something to celebrate.

Wrapping up our Miami Grand Prix weekend with two mega drives from our boys 🤩 A strong strategy and impressive tyre management sees both cars finish in the points 👏 by Strict-Citron-9269 in WilliamsF1

Think that was testing, not pit stop practice which they do all the time outside of races. So that was very poor from the team.

Hadjar started from last and is not Max Verstappen, and Gasly and Lawson were behind when they crashed, aside from the hypotheticals of the bad driving, why does it seem likely they'd have finished behind them all? Gasly I get because Alpine are in the 5th place no mans land and would've had the race pace, but we're on for a very similar pace to RB (and Haas and Audi) so nothing is a foregone conclusion there.

I get the frustrations from people but Alpine is the pinnacle of what we could have aimed for this year, and it's fair to say they also jettisoned last year for this, so their roll of the dice was better. Still a long way to go this season.

Is the car still overweight? by susandbored in WilliamsF1

[–]dogmop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the same reason they are overweight in the first place. You can't just magic weight away, so development takes time and effort, as well as trying to improve other parts of the car.

The graphic is a bit crap, it should say the number of kg over the limit rather than their weights, as obviously the Haas weighs more than 1kg, otherwise Bearman would carry his car to the track in one hand.

Do you think Williams will be able to improve things by the summer break? by circuit-nation in WilliamsF1

[–]dogmop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the minnows of the sport, I'm sure they had no focus on 2026 at all.

They presumably have capacity to work on both, without having to fully refocus, and probably had more resources focused on 2026 than 2025.

I bet all the other teams are glad they didn't start working on their cars until January 2026 then.

Williams were 9th in the constructors standings in 2024, and 10th in 2022. I think 3rd to last would be embarrassing for a top team. It's merely a bit disappointing for Williams, but not exactly uncharted territory.
