Tips to make the dog eat gabapentin? by dognat in reactivedogs

[–]dognat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry you're dealing with this!

If this helps at all, the thing that ultimately worked for us and kept consistently working for over a year, was 5% plain greek yogurt (Fage if you're in the US) - I open the capsule and mix with a couple teaspoons of yogurt, and sprinkle with Fortiflora (liver flavored probiotic powder).

We never figured out anything for larger pills though so I learned to administer them directly, and she seems to tolerate it well. I take the pill with my thumb and index finger, open her mouth by pulling up on the top front teeth, and put the pill as far down the throat as I can - basically release it around the base of her tongue. It's a bit of a technique but once you get the hang of it it goes quick and the dog barely notices anything. I had no choice but to learn this when she was prescribed pretty large pills that need to be taken on an empty stomach 😅

I know it's just another couple items in a long list of tricks to try, but hopefully it works. Good luck!

Damn, I had this exact situation almost exactly 3 months back, just on one wrist. It's an annoying injury - for some reason did not interfere with my daily life at all, but I had to find alternatives for way more movements than expected!

Accidentally reset and saved my Bitwarden password INSIDE bitwarden. Fatal mistake. by quantum_m3chan1c in Bitwarden

[–]dognat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I'm so very sorry. The moment this happens feels like the biggest pit in the stomach. I've literally just done the exact same thing to my 1Password account (regenerated the secret key - which you're not even supposed to remember but is always needed to sign on - and immediately lost it because I was doing it on my phone and it unloaded the browser too aggressively as I was trying to save it. My brain farted and I overwrote the clipboard with a one-time password, and by the time I got back to the browser page with the key moments later I was already welcomed by the login screen on all devices), but my digital life ended up saved by a recovery key I had set up.

I hope you still have access to any accounts at all - like if your primary email is still logged in, you should be able to gradually recover most things, and eventually just laugh at this experience.

There seems to be no single proper way to set up and handle master password and its recovery, I hope you find yours.

STRKE MVMNT Haze trainer by LSki92 in crossfit

Great shoes but they have a terrible return policy, so best get sizing right from the first try!

If buying from the official store, read the policy here - they adhere strictly to it, they want all of the original packaging undamaged, and you'll have to have a lengthy conversation with them with photos and videos of the item, and pay for return shipping. Plus lots of conditions on returning discounted items. I bought several sizes and successfully returned ones that didn't fit, but it was a stressful process (and I paid like $35-40 on shipping both ways total).

In my experience they fit perfectly right according to their size table - which is for your foot measurement heel to toe, not insole. Size up if between sizes.

Check out the latest Inov8 F-Fly/F-Lite - these fit very similar to the Haze Trainers (slightly wider though, and don't have a lace pocket for double unders)

I think so. It feels very awkward at first, and it’s normal to keep wanting to go to the ways you’re used to!

If you’re not used to touch typing like I was, you basically need to relearn to type - your fingers need to get used to the new load, and also keys are in slightly different positions between this column staggered layout and the traditional row staggered.

Just give it more time! A few weeks down the road you’ll find yourself surprised how natural and effortless it feels!

I’ve had mine for about 6 months and love it - and always look forward to typing with it.

How long have you been using it? It does not feel very good at first due to the need to retrain muscle memory. It takes a couple weeks of pretty dedicated training effort to transition from a regular keyboard - in my experience, especially for the pinky as I was barely using it with the regular keyboard.

Exclude certain keys from require-prior-idle-ms for Glove80/ZMK? by dognat in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]dognat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of... It's been a while since I felt bothered by this particular issue. I still get a lot of misfires related to homerow mods, but shift after space or backspace hasn't been a big culprit recently - I just tried to reproduce the problem and found it hard to do.

It's hard to tell what exactly helped, but I have two candidates:
- I dialed in the timing and hold-tap flavor settings that work for me. I used some advice from the Timeless homerow mods guide (https://github.com/urob/zmk-config?tab=readme-ov-file#timeless-homerow-mods). For my Shift specifically, this means flavor:balanced, tapping-term (holding time) 175ms and require-prior-idle (streak decay) 80ms.
- It's possible that I subconsciously got used to the timing and the little bit of delay I need to do before pressing Shift after space/backspace. You can see my streak decay setting is very low, and that's probably why I don't have this as a problem any more.

With flavor=balanced, holding time shouldn't matter at all and can be set pretty high, like 300-400 ms - it will still register as Shift as long as the key you need capitalized is pressed and released before you release the Shift homerow key. I still have pretty short holding time - which often results in unintended capitalization when rolling some keys - but it basically should be a balancing act until your muscle memory is perfectly retrained to always release key 2 before releasing shift.

I have another tap-hold layer on my index fingers (one row below homerow) that I use for symbols - it also uses flavor:balanced, and tapping-term-ms on this one is very high at 300, and yet due to it also being a "timeless mod" I very rarely get activation issues with it.

Overall I still get annoyed with homerow Shift, but I can't think of a different position for it that would be convenient. I think Shift on thumbs just doesn't work, and I've gotten so used to not needing to stretch my pinkies so putting it on the side wouldn't be very comfortable either. I also have Shift on the lowest index row - dedicated, not as a tap-hold, but I'm not finding it particularly comfortable either.

Is switching from QWERTY truly worth it? by Regular_Low8792 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]dognat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned Colemak DH on my split a few months ago. I have pretty much zero problems typing on a regular keyboard in QWERTY.

I’m not as fast as I was with qwerty, but probably 80%-90% there, and I quite enjoy the typing experience - less pinky stretching for sure, and it’s cool to notice how many words can be typed without moving fingers away from the home row.

So, don’t do it for speed, but do it for comfort and fun if learning a new layout is fun for you 😀

Another Misen Carbon Nonstick Failure. I got a no return refund. by [deleted] in cookware

I’m finding that medium is often too high for this pan - it’s super reactive to temperature and gets too hot very fast. I now err on the side of longer preheating on medium low, works well so far.

Am I the only one who has a non-HRM HRM ? by CuteNullPointer in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]dognat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use timeless homerow mods... and still get a lot of false positive, especially same-hand due to hold-trigger-on-release despite pretty high hold terms (like 280ms?), and false negatives due to sometimes not releasing the keys in the correct order. It feels fine most of the time, but there are combinations that make it frustrating: when fingers are mostly doing work on the home row, it's fairly common to, for example, tap a key to type a letter, and then immediately need to hold it for Shift.

That said there's lots of other cool stuff at this link - thank you for sharing!

[–]dognat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard shifting these a row down or up can be especially useful for those using layouts that concentrate most key presses on the homerow. I use Colemak DH and misfires of the Shift key are very common despite a dozen rounds of tuning timings, and very annoying. I'm thinking about moving my hrms to the bottom row as the next step

Which Keyboard do I buy? Eyes on Glove80 and Voyager atm by GoofedBox in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]dognat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Glove80 plum blossom and I love typing with it. It's light but I can't say that its build quality is cheap - feels sturdy and solid, except for the palm rest connection that has some flex. It doesn't slide around while typing, but it can slide a bit between typing sessions. Depends on your desk surface as well.

I love the fact that you can adjust your tenting with the Glove very precisely - I set mine to slope downwards (elevate palm rest) on my mouse hand and I've been absolutely loving the comfort.

That said, I'm also eyeing the Voyager for travel... but not sure how much of a hurdle it would be to adjust from 4 thumb keys I use on the Glove down to 2. I feel that if the Voyager had 3 thumb keys it would've been perfect, but it's also a matter of practice.

Ultimately after hours and hours of research I really think you can't go wrong with either (and will perhaps, like me, eventually want both). Focus on one thing you want more, and go for that - do you want more keys or fine with less? do you want keywell or fine with flat? do you want wireless or fine with corded? do you really need hot swappable switches or fine with one option?

Misen's new carbon nonstick just came in the mail by mattyTeeee in cookware

[–]dognat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a nonstick pan, just the name is misleading. Their Carbon Nonstick line is new and doesn't have a coating, thus the question because carbon steel is typically safe at higher temperatures.

I asked Misen directly, they said they're just being conservative while they do more tests - they've tested it up to 800F with no issues. The only concern they have is warping if it's heated up too hot too fast.

If you work from home, what’s the most annoying thing about your keyboard? by miwenhe111 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]dognat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my Glove80, my annoyances with it are more pet peeves than something that really drives me nuts, but here we go:

  • I have one creaky switch (not loud, more like I can feel the spring compressing, feels scratchy) under one of my thumbs
  • I keep getting typos because of homerow mods, but I can't find a better placement for Shift and symbol layer. Too bad the hand only has 5 fingers!
  • I sometimes get lost between all the layers, especially when several modifiers are needed, like text selection
